Romie Virgil Smith, 89, of Sod went home Friday, November 23, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.
He retired from Union Carbide Chemical Corporation where he was a heavy equipment supervisor. He was a WWII Army Veteran and member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. He was a good husband and father, always providing for his family.
Virgil was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Neal; son-in-law, Charles Bowman; three brothers Harold, Carl and Roy Neal and sister, Alma Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Golda; daughter, Linda Bowman of St. Albans; son, Gary (Donna) Smith of Clendenin; sister, Helen (Jesse) McKenzie of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Sonya (Jay) Dunlap, Chuck (Cyndi) Bowman, Elizabeth Smith and Jessica (Adam) Marshlek; four great grandchildren, Weston and Gavin Dunlap and Natalie and Kyle Bowman.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek. Burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. Friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
