Donna Jean Gibson, 74, of St. Albans, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at home.

She was a member of Dartmont Freewill Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her church family and is now finally home. Earlier in life, Donna was a nurse’s aide for Kanawha Valley Memorial Hospital and provided home health for Thomas Memorial Hospital. She loved spending time with her family, going on family trips to various destinations, especially Hawaii.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Larry Seacrist and Betty Staggs Stone and brother, Samuel “Sambo” Stone.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael R. Gibson; daughters, Tina (Steve) Boland, Michelle (Billy) Smith, Tamatha (Wesley) Kirk; son, Michael (Shannon) Gibson, Jr.; brothers, Dempsey Browning, Roger Stone; grandchildren, Ericka Kirk, Bryan Kirk, Steven (Brittney) Boland, II, Andrew Gibson, Nathan Gibson; great grandchildren, Hayleigh Flowers, Regan Flowers, Bentley Boland.

Service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, April 26, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cecil Ray Davis

Cecil Ray Davis, 56, of Alum Creek, formerly of Racine, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at home.

Cecil was a longtime employee of Boone Hydraulics. He was an avid poker player. He never met a stranger and had a good heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice, Sr. and Deloris Ann “Lois” Cooper Davis; brother, David Gibson; sister, Alice Gibson Mollet; and grandson, Cameron Davis.

Cecil is survived by his daughter, Deborah Leann Workman (Brandon); son, Terry Lee Davis; sister, Thelma “Che Che” Miller; brother, Maurice V. “June Bug” Davis, Jr.; grandchildren, T.J., Kayden, Paul, Maci, Ezra, Alexa, and Camilla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and special friends, John and Jessica Worley.

In keeping with Cecil’s wish, he will be cremated and laid to rest at a private service.

Rommie Charles Eastman

Rommie Charles Eastman, 57, of Eskdale, WV went to his final resting place on April 12, 2024, at CAMC Memorial where he joined his father, Homer Eastman and mother, Barbara A. Linville, mother-in-law, Nancy Webb, his fishing buddy, Foster Webb and nephew, Eric Alley.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Denise Raylene Eastman of Eskdale; his pride and joys, Harli Eastman, Iziah Eastman, and Resci Eastman all of Eskdale; brothers, Charles Eastman(Betty), Jimmy Eastman(Darlene) Terry Eastman(Mae), Homer Eastman all of Ansted, Andy Eastman(Dianna) of Pax and Ronnie Eastman(Tonya) of Marmet; sister, Marlene Butler(Randy) of Gauley Bridge; nephews, Zach Eastman, Roy Jr. Eastman(Maddie), Josh Eastman, Curtis Martin(Kiri), Brad Alley(Colton); nieces, Bethany Gillespie(Bo), Frosti, Martina, and Erica Gouty(Andrew); and many dear friends that he cherished and work buddies of the City of Charleston.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek from 2pm to 4pm with private graveside service on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Webb-Means Cemetery, Yawkey, WV.

Susan Denise Harmon

Susan Denise Harmon, 53, of St. Albans was reunited with her dad, Darrell and sister, Tammy on Monday, April 8, 2024.

She was a graduate of Arcadia High School in Ohio and held several college degrees. She worked for Frontier Communications for more than 20 years.

Susan is survived by her mother, N. Pearl Lovejoy Harmon; lifelong friend, Sandy Lynn Cunningham; close friend, Patt; and many aunts, uncles, family, and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Adkins & Cummings Cemetery, Sias. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bobby Baire

Bobby Baire, 72, of Emmons, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice West, South Charleston.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Haden H. & Mary Magdalene Selbe Baire, sisters, Greathel and Martha, brothers, Adam, Willie, and David.

Bobby is survived by his daughter, Jessica, siblings, Basil (Joyce) Baire, Junie (Buddy) Kirk, Linzie (Janet) Baire, Bawfurd Baire, William (Donna) Baire, Joyce (Danny) Pauley, Hazel (Terry) Rabel, Mary (Barney) Johnson, special nephew, Rocky Baire, and several other nieces and nephews and family.

Service will be 1:00pm Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Sisk. Burial will follow at Brounland Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Ronald Scott Linville

Ronald Scott Linville, 57 of Alum Creek, passed away on Wednesday March 20, 2024.

Ronnie was a 1986 graduate of Duval High School. He managed several restaurants including A&W and Kenny Rogers. Ronnie mostly enjoyed his time outdoors hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father Buddy Linville and is survived by his mother, Barbara Linville; son, Scott Linville; brother, Timothy Linville; and granddaughter, Leah Hager.

In keeping with Ronnie’s wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest in a private service.

Richard Allen Comer

Richard Allen Comer, 81, of Alum Creek passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House – West, South Charleston, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Job & Nellie Dunlap Comer, son-in-law Mark Clark and sister-in-law, Connie Comer.

He graduated from Charleston High School Class of 1960, and retired from Hobet Mining with 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police from 1964 – 1966.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy, son, Richard “Rick” Comer II, granddaughter, Sierra (Jake) Kennedy and grandson, Richard “Cruz” Comer III, daughter, Beth Comer Clark, granddaughter, Savannah Clark and grandson, Mark “Chase” Clark II. He is also survived by his brothers, Doyle (Jean Ann) Comer, Ocala, FL, and Romie Comer, Lewisburg, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00pm Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Graceland Memorial Park Chapel, with Pastor Blaine Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park. Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service.


Otis “Obie” Gillenwater,
76 of Sumerco, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 16, 2024. 

In 1974 Obie received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a 1966 graduate of Duval High School, and he honorably served in the US Army. He retired from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 625 with 43 years of service. After he retired, he had more time to enjoy the things he loved: taking trips to Kentucky Lake and Amish Country, hunting, fishing, watching sports and westerns, and spoiling his grandchildren. He loved his grandkids like no other Papaw/Paps has. He was a devoted hard worker for his family. 

He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and he loved Jesus. Obie exemplified Christlike characteristics in his love, devotion, and encouragement toward others. We have the hope and promise of seeing him again one day soon in Heaven. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Mobley Gillenwater and Otis Gillenwater; father and mother in law, Skitch and Irene Loftis. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maurene “Betsy” Gillenwater; sons, John “Chris” Gillenwater of Cincinnati, OH, Pastor Craig (Amber) Gillenwater of Sod, WV; grandchildren, Sydney, Lillian, and their mother Sarah Gillenwater, and Drew and Kinley; sisters, Janet Hill, Jane Kerns, Dorothy (Roger)Profitt; brother, Mark (Annie) Gillenwater;  and many other friends, nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. The family would like to thank Obie’s great nieces Kristina, Anna, and Sarah for their care and devotion to Obie in his last days here on Earth.

The family would also like to thank many people: the physicians of Pulmonary Associates of Charleston/WVU Medicine, the special nurses of the ICU that treated him as one of their own, and all the friends and family that supported the family these last days by calling, texting, visiting, and providing meals.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 19, at 1:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Craig Gillenwater and Dwight McClure and grandson Drew officiating. Burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  

Eddie Dale Fletcher

Eddie Dale Fletcher, 64 of Brounland Rd. Alum Creek, passed away on March 7, 2024 at home.

Eddie was a former employee of Holstein Landscaping. He loved riding his 4-wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Joanna Gibson Fletcher, twin sister, Betty Fletcher, brother, David Fletcher, nephew, Jeremy Fletcher, brother-in-law, Dale McCormick, and sister-in-law, Laura Fletcher.

Eddie is survived by his siblings, Madonna Lude (Joe), Ellen McCallister, Charles (Sandy) Fletcher, Patricia Holstein (Jerry), Melody McCormick, Gary Fletcher, Kenneth Fletcher, and Leasa Fletcher and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Sisk officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.

Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Mary Elizabeth Sharp

Mary Elizabeth Sharp, 58 of St. Albans, passed away on Wednesday March 6, 2024 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, David and Patricia Pittman Roberts and her nephew Douglas Means.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Conwell, and son, James Conwell. 3 sisters, Cheryl Snodgrass (Jeff), Patricia Gottberg (Brian), and Evelyn Waldron; grandchildren, Ayden and Preston Conwell, Kendra Fletcher, and Jackson Javins. Also surviving are her niece, Autumn Clark, and nephews Alan Roberts and Dave Means.

She will be laid to rest with private services during the spring.
