Walter Sesco Lovejoy, Jr., 76. of Sod went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, with his family by his bedside.

He was  self employed. He worked at  drilling water wells and bore holes in the coal mines.  At one time in his career,  Jr. drilled oil wells in Honduras. He was also the owner and operator of Rainbow Irrigation and Landscaping. He became a Christian Dec. 3, 2013.  Jr. was a veteran of the  U. S. Air Force.

He was preceded  in death by his parents, Walter Sesco and Effie Lee Cooper Lovejoy.Jr. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Tona M. “Pat” Lovejoy; daughters, Rhonda (Harold) Johnson of Palm Coast, Fl., Robin (Frederick) Thompson of Alkol, Tina (Jerry) Roberts and Regina (Timothy) Brogan all of Sod; brothers, Johnny (Becky) Lovejoy of Alum Creek and Richard Lovejoy (Denise) of Fl.; sisters, Lou Ella (Bob) Jackson of IL, and Donrheta (David) Margolis of NC;  9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Ron Scott and Roe Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.   The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

I have fought a good fight.  I have finished my course.  I have kept the faith.

Hazel Bays Whitten, 94, of Woodville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 1, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends who were singing her favorite songs to her.

She was born on February 13, 1922 and was born again as a Christian in 1949 when she was saved at the Methodist church on Stinson Mountain.  She was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.

Hazel attended Tango and Yawkey Elementary schools, Duval High School, Marshall University, and Morris Harvey College.  She was a school teacher for 13 years.  She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service as the postmaster of the Woodville post office.  She was also co-owner of Whitten’s Grocery for many years.

Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, sons Barry and Roger, daughter Sharon Baisden, an infant son, grandson Kenny, parents Wetzel and Bessie Bays, and brothers Benny, Basil, and Herman Bays.

Hazel is survived by sons Ronald (Katherine) Whitten and Donald (Charlotte) Whitten of Griffithsville; daughter-in-law Chiquita Whitten of Woodville;  brothers Bernard of Toledo, OH, Jack (Barbara) of Elkview, and Bill of Leander, TX; sisters Betty (Leo) Pack of Elkview and Louise Fought of Toledo, OH; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great, great-grandchildren.

Hazel was blessed with a family that took excellent care of her along with 2 very special friends Faye Smith and Melissa Sigmon.  She loved her family and she loved serving the Lord.  She most enjoyed talking to people about the Lord.  Anyone who visited with her could not leave without honoring her request of singing her one of her favorite church hymns.

Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 4, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, 2096 Childress Rd, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley and Gene Pauley officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday June 3, 2016.

Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.

Elma Wanda Baire, formerly of Alum Creek, passed away Monday May 30, 2016 with her children by her side. She battled Alzheimers for more than 10 years. She was a survivor, born March 25, 1931 as a 2 lb preemie. She had other medical obstacles that others could or would never have been able to overcome. She was a strong woman to the end.

She is survived by her children Brenda (Lenzy) Meickles, Michael (Pattie) Baire, Susan (Tim) Atkins, Sherry (Greg) Blake and Patti (Brad) Rice. She also had 2 other children, who greeted her when she entered Heaven, Debra Renay and Randall Gene.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and another one due in August. She had a host of friends from Brounland where she resided the majority of her life, her beloved church, Hopewell Baptist in Alum Creek, her two most recent residences-Regency Place in Scott Depot and Teays Valley Assisted Living in Hurricane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillard Baire, mother, Wilmoth Harless and 5 brothers, Bruce, Leighton, Milton, Omar and Jimmy.

Foremost, Mom loved the Lord and her children of who she was proud. She never failed to tell people of Jesus and His love. She reminded people that Jesus is the way, the only way to Heaven. She quoted Bible verses and sang the blessed hymns of the faith with her beautiful alto voice. She enjoyed doing Bible Studies through the mail and was so proud when she would receive the certificates of excellence in the mail. She left this world with many coming to see her in her last days and telling her of her part in their choosing Jesus over the world. She was very wealthy in her knowledge of the Word and the souls who will someday join her in Heaven.

Special thanks to her caregivers at Teays Valley Assisted Living. They were all great and we never had to worry about her getting plenty of love and care in our absence. There were some super special ones, Josh Arnold and Tara Bailey, who lit up Mom’s world when they came near her. Also, thank you isn’t enough for the staff of Hospice West, with whom Mom spent her last 3 ½ weeks of life.  Their compassion, care, concern, even down to the gentle turning of her small frail body never ceased to amaze her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to Gideon’s International, In Memory of Elma Baire, 99 Barat Lane, Hurricane, WV  25526 to further the gospel through the written Word or Hospice Hubbard House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd W., Charleston, WV  25387, in her memory.

Services will be at Curry Funeral home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek is serving our family. Visitation is 6-8 Wednesday and Service is at 11 am on Thursday. Preachers who are serving are her grandson Jeremy Atkins and son-in-law, Greg Blake. She loved her preacher boys.

Sandra Lana  “Sandy”  Bragg, 67, of Yawkey passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV.

She was predeceased by her son, Stanley Bragg II.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Stanley; son, Dale Bragg; daughter, Lana  Bennett and husband, Matt;  3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2,  at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Kenneth Pauley officiating.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made toward funeral services.

Elizabeth Tiffner,  97, formerly of Charleston, WV,  was currently living at Brookdale Assisted Living in Clarksville, TN went into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

She was blessed with a long and fruitful life of service to the Lord Jesus and serving others.  Elizabeth was born January 5, 1919 in Wytheville, VA and moved to West Virginia in her twenties with her mother Edith Crook.

She was a long time member of the Bible Center Church, starting when it was the City Bible Center Church located on Broad St. in Charleston.    She was an accomplished quilter with some of her work displayed in the State Capital Cultural Center. Elizabeth moved to Alaska in 2003 with her son and family and lived there until 2013.  She then relocated in Clarksville, TN.  Elizabeth’s joyful spirit and love of the Lord influenced everyone who met her all the way through her life.

She was predeceased by her mother, Edith Crook; husband, Lewis Tiffner; sons, Jerry and Howard Hamilton; daughter, Twyla Sue Hudkins; and grandson, Benjamin Tiffner.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Timothy (Judy) Tiffner; daughter, Janet (Alan) Beckett; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with her son Pastor Tim Tiffner officiating. Interment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

We have been blessed abundantly with a mom, grandmother and friend that loved God and delighted in serving others for God’s glory.  She is deeply missed, but we have the calm assurance that we will see her again around the Throne of God.

Kelley Nicole Triplett, 36 of Griffithsville, was born April 14, 1980 in Huntington and went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 following a short illness.

She was the daughter of Catherine Triplett of Griffithsville and Ron Triplett of Elkview.  Kelley was an angel on earth.  Despite her numerous physical challenges, she always had a smile on her face and a sweetness in her spirit.

Kelley was a graduate of Hamlin High School and attended Prestera Center in Madison.

She was predeceased by her infant brother, Christopher; her maternal grandfather, Homer Torman; and her paternal grandparents Oscar and Olive Triplett.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Tim Triplett (Stacy) and their children, Aaron, Peyton and Eibhlin; maternal grandmother, Frances Chafin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Scott Bandy  officiating.  Burial will follow at Sansom Cemetery, Garretts Bend.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Martha Lee Baire Morgan, 73, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 16, 2016 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.

She was a Christian, who loved and cared for her family with all her heart.

Martha was predeceased by her grandson, Jonathan; parents, Haden and Mary Baire; brothers, Adam, Willie and David Baire and sister, Greathel “Goat” Lovejoy.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Burgess and Paul; daughter, Latasha, son, Danny Morgan; grandchildren, Crystal, Steven , Christian and  Peyton, Evan and Lincoln;  great grandchildren, Alexis and Jonathan; siblings, Basil Baire, Junie (Buddy) Kirk, Linzie (Janet) Baire, Bawfurd and Bob Baire, William (Donna) Baire, Joyce (Danny) Pauley, Hazel (Terry) Rabel and Mary (Barney) Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Michael  Graley officiating.  Burial will follow at Brounland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Betty Frances Lore, 83, of Charleston,  went home to be with the Lord  Sunday, May 15, 2016,  in Bellaire at Devonshire, Scott Depot, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, parents, Ernest & Opal Hudson and brother, Arnold Hudson.

She was a lifelong resident of the Kanawha Valley and grew up attending Ivy Dale Baptist Church with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Paul) Adkins, Charleston,  Connie Zimmerman, Elkview,  and Brenda (Rick) Thompson, Orlando, FL;  son, Raymond “Les” Lore, Jr., South Point, OH; brothers, Frank, Jim, and Ernie Hudson; sisters, Marsha Rife, Anna Morrison, Nancy Clark, and Joyce Pauley and two grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00pm Saturday, May 21^st at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Tyler Long officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Harry Lee “Joe Bob” Parsons, 82, of Charleston, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 with his family by his side.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley “Sis”, grandson-in-law Matthew Daniel, parents, Edwin & Macel Parsons, brothers, Glen, Gene, and John Daniel, sisters, Ruth, Phyllis “Fib”, and Lurleen.

Joe Bob was an U.S. Army Veteran who served in Korea.  He was a founding member and former chief of the Davis Creek Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a retired optical lab technician and also enjoyed delivering pizza for Domino’s for many years.

He is survived by daughter, Sarita Jo (Ed) Bennett; son, Bob Parsons (Robin Aeby Manriquez), brother, Ralph (Eva) Parsons; sister, Maxine Ocheltree and sister-in-law Charlotte Parsons, granddaughters, Beth (Bryan) Hoylman and Sarah (Steve) Runyon; and great grandsons, Billy Grass, Layne Daniel and Joe Manriquez, and many very special nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00pm Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel,  Alum Creek, with Rev. Roger Vannoy and Rev. Frank Goff officiating.  Burial will be Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW.  Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday, May 17^th at the funeral home.
