Paul Bernard Painter, 92, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice West.

He was a retired Electrician, Instrument Mechanic and Crane Operator from FMC in South Charleston.

Paul served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was also a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159 and a Life Member of the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768.

He preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dilima Loftus Painter; and brothers, Earl, Burl and Chuck.

Paul is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Mae; children, Joyce Galloway, Richard Paul Painter, Lou Weisberg and Mona Painter; grandchildren, Andria, Elijah, Billy and Michael; and great grandchildren, Asa, Heidi and Aria.

Service will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The committal service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Emma Chapel Cemetery in Emma Chapel, WV, with military and Masonic graveside rites.

Virginia Ann Holstein

Virginia Ann Holstein, 67, of South Charleston, went home Sunday, June 10, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester & Mandy Johnson; siblings, Jim, Evelyn, Ruby, Mabel, and Ronnie.

She is survived by her children, Frank (Karla) Barker, Kathy Pauley, Michael Reed, and Becky Martin; three grandchildren, Jesse and Chelsea Pauley and Katie Riley; brothers Henry and Paul Johnson; sister, Margie Dukes; and special niece, Laurel (Mark) Tanner.

Service will be 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be at a later date at Johnson Family Cemetery.

 

 

 

 

Ralph William “Will” Hitchcock, 55, of South Charleston, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Janie and brother, Danny.

Will was an auto mechanic. He is survived by his five children, Kenny Holestine, Candy (Justin) Jeffries, Barbara Hitchcock, Jamie McClure and Hillary (Leland) McClanahan; mother, Jane Hitchcock; brothers, Johnny, Mark, Dennis and Rick.

Memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to assist in offsetting the funeral costs. Checks may be made payable to Curry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Mona Faye Thevenin

Mona Faye Thevenin, 74, of South Charleston went home Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

She was currently employed at the WV State Medical Association. Mona also worked and retired from CAMC and Carelink.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Romeo and Zelma Glenn; two infant brothers; and sister, Beverly Harris.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Curtis; daughter, Debbie (Robert) Downs; son, Mike (Rose) Thevenin; grandchildren, Jonathan (Shawana) Downs, Brooke and Jessica Thevenin; great granddaughter, Madelyn Downs; brother, John (Linda) Glenn; and many other family and friends who will love and will miss her greatly.

Service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12th, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor David Mitchell and Danny Scalise officating. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

A private family burial will follow the service at the Thaxton Family Cemetery in South Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mona to a nonprofit therapy center dear to the family, the Laurance Jones III Childhood Language Center, 1313 Quarrier Street, Suite A, Charleston, WV 25301.

 

Delilah Ann Scott

Delilah Ann Scott, 69, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Evelyn McCormick and sister, Brenda “BB” Hunter.

Delilah was a loving and dedicated servant of the Lord who faithfully ministered as a pastor’s wife, choir director, Sunday school teacher and so much more. She was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ron, children, Deah Scott, Shara Bevan, and Myron (Julie) Scott; Grandsons, Johnathan, Bradley, Brandon, Braiden, Evan, Pierson, Cohen & Westin, and brother J.D. (Pam) McCormick.

Service will be 5:00pm Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Isaiah Hatfield and John Gorrell officiating.  Burial will follow at the Scott Family Cemetery, Alum Creek.   Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service.

 

Linna West

Linna West, 67, of Whitesville, WV, born May 20, 1951 to the late Lee and Edith Kidd, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

The most important part of Linna’s life was her family who loved her and will miss her dearly.

Linna was also preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Kidd and sister, Connie Graley.

She is survived by Claude West; son, Claude West, Jr.,; daughters, Stacy Pruett, Connie Cummings and JoAnn Skiles; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and sisters, Diana West, Brenda Duff, Vivian Gibson and Kathleen Weekley.

Michael Steven Myers “Big Wheel” Wheeler, 63, of Sod, WV passed away Monday, May 28, 2018 at home on the banks of Coal River surrounded by his family and beloved pets.

He was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mike had retired from the UMWA Local 17 District 1582, he was a former employee of Kanawha Glass in Dunbar and a member of the Boiler Makers Local 667 District 1582, an Ironworker, also worked at Burmingham Fastener and Danville Lumber.

“Big Wheel” loved to camp, hunt, fish and cook. He guided many camping, fishing and hunting trips for friends and family. He was an excellent outdoor cook and prepared many feasts while camping. Everyone always loved to camp and stay with Mike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Jo Myers and sister, Valerie Thomas.

Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Melissa; children, Beth, Michele and Mikie; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Ethan, Emily and Damon; and “adopted kids” Jessica Powers of Wheeling and Paula Dunlap of Fairmont; brother, Keith Myers; and sister, Lisa Plybone.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mike often said that “Life was like pages of a book…gone before you know it.” Family and friends will surely miss Big Wheel, “Mr. Holy Moly” himself. We love you!

Franklin G. Lilly I

Franklin G. Lilly I, 76, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 28, 2018 at his residence after a short illness.

Franklin was born April 4, 1942 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late T.O. and Mae Lilly of Alum Creek. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Caroline Sue Lilly; son, Jeffrey Lilly; sisters, Ada Belle Lilly and Beulah Mooney; and brother Norvel Lilly.

He was a dock worker at Smith Transfer for 17 years and later retired from APR Improvements where he worked as a carpenter. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 175.

Franklin loved spending time hunting and fishing at his camp in Pocahontas County with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his three sons, Frank (Paula), Toby (Chasity) both of Alum Creek and Adam (Mindy) of Poca; one daughter, Sarah (Bobby) Davis of Loudendale; sister, Eulah Fay Duncan; grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Justin Jeffrey and Chase; great grandchildren, Allison, Lexi, Hailey, Jacob and Jaxon; sister-in-law, Belva (David) Brogan and brother-in-law, Mike (Darlene) Bell.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Tommy Roberts and Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.

Franklin will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

The family would also like to express a special thank you to HospiceCare for their care and support during the past few months.

 

Bruce Leighton Harless, 67, of South Charleston passed away at Charleston Area Medical Center on Monday, May 21, 2018.

He was a 44 year member of the UMWA.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Leighton R. and Virginia Gullian Harless; brother, Rick Harless; and nephews, Phillip and Mark Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Deborah; son, Jonathan (Helen) Harless of Palm City, FL, daughter, Lindsay (Michael) Flowers of GA; sisters, Mary (Art) Smith of OH and Nora Harless (Lee) Gillespie of NC; brothers, William (Becky)Harless of AZ, Robert (Anissa) Harless of South Charleston, WV; four grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; and fur babies, Chopper and Bandit, who he loved very much.

A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at Forks of Coal Memorial Park in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Kanawha County Animal Shelter, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.

 

Barry Gordon Monday

Barry Gordon Monday, 76, of Tango, WV, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 19, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike Monday and Manoka Adams Lynn, grandparents, John Calvin and Mattie Adams, half-brother, James Lynn and an aunt who cared for him, Anna Wade.

He is survived by his half-brother, John Lynn, uncle, Chester Adams and several cousins.  He was a member of the Griffithsville Church of Christ.

Service will be 2:00pm Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Kim Matthews officiating.  Burial will follow at the Powell Cemetery, Hamlin.  Visitation for friends and family is one hour prior to the service.
