Jay David Pratt

Jay Pratt jpgJay David Pratt, age 59, of South Charleston, WV, ended a fierce fight with cancer at the Hubbard Hospice House in the same city.  Jay was born on June 9, 1957 to John D. and Betty L. (Arrington) Pratt in Weirton, WV.  Jay had 3 sisters, Deborah, Patricia and Barbara.  His childhood was spent in Weirton, but the family moved to Sistersville, WV, where Jay began and graduated high school.

Jay met the love of his life, Pamala Holstine in 1986, and they were married on June 9, 1990.  Together, they lived out their wedding day promise to continue as best friends who laugh with, live for, dream with, and love one another.

For the last 15 years, Jay has worked for Smith Motor Company. He won the Vision of Excellence Award in 2014. He was also awarded many others, including the Prestige in 2006.  Jed and Vicki Smith were tremendously loyal and supportive to Jay and his family during his battle.

Three separate branches of the military received Jay’s devoted service. He first served in the US Air Force as Sergeant from 1976-1982. During that time, he served in Saragoza, Spain, and travelled in Europe as time and money would allow. From 1990-1995 he served the US Army as a Combat Engineer. Simultaneously, he also served in the Army National Guard from 1991-1995, where he was an E6.

Jay loved WVU football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Nascar races. He and his wife spent many hours cheering themselves hoarse.  He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, who always brought a gleam of joy to his eye. He loved to talk about them, bragging about their accomplishments and abilities.  Favorite pastimes with the grandchildren were target practice with BB guns, go-kart racing, and fishing.  His cheerful “Hay-lo!” was his greeting at the door or on the phone, and was always genuine.

Jay was member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities and attended faithfully. His pastor and his church family were incredibly important to him.

Jay is survived by his wife, Pamala; daughter, Tracy (Pratt) Shive and son-in-law, Paul Shive; grandchildren, Franklyn, Phillip, Kellie, and Bailey, all of Dyersville, Iowa; parents, James E. and Betty (Arrington Pratt) VanCamp, of Sistersville, WV; sisters, Patricia (Pratt) Hostutler, of Nolensville, TN and Barbara (VanCamp) Palmer of Paden City, WV; nephews and nieces, Alex Gryskevich IV, Tricia Gryskevich (Hennis), Rebecca (Hostutler) Sommers, Rachael (Hostutler) Gill, Joel Hostutler and Jordan Palmer; brothers-in-law, Alex Gryskevich III and Todd Palmer.

Preceding Jay in death are his father, John D. Pratt; sister, Deborah (Pratt) Gryskevich; and brother-in-law, Gregory Hostutler.

Friends may call at Curry’s Funeral Home on Saturday, September 3 from 6 to 8pm.  A service celebrating Jay’s life will be Sunday, September 4, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastors Dwight McClure and Dorris Walls officiating.  Graveside service with military graveside rites by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768  will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday September 6, at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum So. Charleston.

Jay’s family members are grateful for the many friends and colleagues, leaders and caregivers, who were a part of his life. Each contributed to his life experiences, bringing him great joy, peace, and satisfaction. His greatest wish was to greet all of us again in Heaven, where there are no more goodbyes, only a joyful, “Hay’lo!”

Audry McClureAudry Faye McClure, 86, of Yawkey went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice West in South Charleston.

She was a very active member of Porter Fork Missionary Baptist Church, now Yawkey Missionary Baptist Church, where she had served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities.   Faye was a wonderful mother, always putting her family first in her life.   She loved quilting, cooking, especially baking and sharing with family and friends.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby “Birt” and Lillie Woods Arbaugh; siblings, Mary McCallister, Delmar Arbaugh, Angelene Baird, Erycle Smith and Elmer “Bo” Arbaugh.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Jewell) McClure, Keith (Marie) McClure, Rita (Jim) Jones and Lisa McClure Dunlap; sisters, Mearl Garrett and Delphia Tudor; six grandchildren, Angela Miller, Stacy McVaney, Kathy Garrison, Doug McClure, Brandon Jones and Curtis Mooney; 7 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Chester Bird and Richard Ruby officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mildred Louise Moore Kinsolving

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Mildred Louise Moore Kinsolving, 85, of Charleston passed from this life to her eternal life with her Savior on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Mildred was born on November 29, 1930 in Kanawha County. She and her beloved husband, Odie Kinsolving, were married on September 29, 1950. Mildred’s most precious joy in life was being a loving mother to daughters, Ann Kinsolving of Charleston and Mary Beth Hiller (John) of Taylors, South Carolina and son, Athel (Kelly) of Alum Creek.

She has eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Laura) Hiller, Joshua Hiller, Johanna (Daniel) Ellis, Joy (Camille) Ngon A Ngon, Justin Hiller, Lacy Kinsolving, Caleb Kinsolving and Bethany Simmons, who grandmother called her best friend.

Mildred was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Jones; her second mom, Leah Henderson Polk and beloved husband of 61 years, Odie. She was a 1949 graduate of Walton High School in Roane County. Mildred will be lovingly remembered as a woman who loved the Lord, loved to learn new things and to cook for her family. She could often be found searching for the next best recipe or watching the birds in her yard. On August 30, Mildred’s incredible fight for life came to an end. She courageously fought dementia and heart disease among other health conditions.

Mildred’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers and employees of Hospice, her Angels, who made her final months of life comfortable and meaningful. A celebration of Mildred’s life will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Visitation with the family will be one and a half hours prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Odie, in Elk Hills Memorial Gardens in Big Chimney, where they made their home in early years of marriage. Mildred has longed to be with Odie since the day he passed and now, they are reunited.

David Paul Spurlock

David SpurlockDavid Paul “Bump” Spurlock, 64, of Griffithsville, entered into Glory peacefully from our hands to His at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston on Sunday, August 28, 2016.

He was preceded in death by grandson: Asher Paul Spurlock, and parents: Gladys Marie & Kenner Paul Spurlock.

He often attended Yawkey Methodist church when he was able.  He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a plant operations specialist 35 years for FMC, Olin then Clearon Chemical Companies.

David was an avid sports fanatic who loved playing, coaching and managing basketball teams from youth teams up thru semi-pro.  He was a 1969 graduate of Duval High School where he lettered in football and basketball and attended WV Tech, Montgomery.   He loved boating and fishing with his son and grandsons.  David was always found trying to help others in any way and would routinely put others’ needs before his own without a second thought.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law/caregiver, Jordan (Mindy) Spurlock, South Charleston, with whom he had made his home this past year.  Also survived by grandsons: Jakob Whitlock, Aaron Spurlock and their younger brother and sister; brother: Jeffrey Kern Spurlock, and Cindy Lowery a special friend who loved and cared for him the past several years and also a niece and two nephews and a host of lifetime friends made thru his involvement with athletics.

Services will be 11:00am, Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Butch Loftis and Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the funeral home.

A special thanks to Terri Lovejoy for helping Mindy with David’s care the past year and also to the staff at Hospice House West for their tender care.

Jerry Lee Allen

Jerry Lee Allen, 50, of St. Albans, died August 24, 2016, at home.  He is survived by brother, Gary Allen Dunbar, WV.  A memorial service will be held in Steubenville, OH, at a later date.

James David Harless

He was a mechanic for M. H. Equipment in Charleston.

David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Frances Harless; and brother, Terry Harless.

He is survived by daughters, Jessica Wood and Lindsey Harless; brother, Johnnie (Cindy) Harless; sisters, Brenda (Bobby) Baldwin, Deanna (Dick) Sammons and Shelia Richardson.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jimmy Lawrence officiating.  Burial will follow at Harless Family Cemetery, Sod.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Gregory Scott Thompson

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jackie & Jewell Thompson and brother, John Timothy Thompson.

He was a truck driver.  He is survived by his companion, Rosalee Thomas; son, Jason Scott Thompson; sisters, Diane (Carl) Doss and Sharon (Lynn) Goff from TN and Regina Charles; grandchildren, Sara and Jada Hudnall, who dearly loved their Pappy; and many nephews and nieces.

There will be no service.

Christopher Michael McVaney

Christopher McVaneyChristopher Michael McVaney, 41, of Alkol, WV, formerly of Arnoldsburg, delivered his final load and went home to be with his brother, A.J. Langford on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, in El Paso, Texas after a sudden illness.

He was an over the road chemical truck driver for Quality Carriers.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy; children, Kaitlyn, Shawn and Alexis; parents, James and  Dianna Langford; grandmother Doris Luzader; and special niece and nephew, Destiny and Little A.J..

Service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek  with Pastor Ron Scott officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Timothy Pauley

Timothy PauleyTimothy Pauley, 58, South Charleston went to be with the Lord Saturday August 13, 2016, at Hubbard Hospice West, South Charleston.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lois Mallory Pauley and brother, Rodney.

He was employed by Pauley Masonry.

He is survived by father, Bill Pauley (Linda Anselment), sisters: Stephanie Lockhart and Sherry Pauley; brothers: Roger Mallory, Joe and Kevin Pauley and Tommy Joe Baker.

Services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Holly Memorial Church with Rev. John Means officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mallory-Dent Cemetery, Spring Hill Mountain.

 

 

Bonnie Lee McClung Fulcher

Bonnie FulcherBonnie Lee McClung Fulcher, 89, of Charleston, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Quarry Manor in Charleston.

Mrs. Fulcher was a professional nurse graduating in  1965 from Morris Harvey College; and a 1975 graduate from University of North Carolina. Among the many positions held by Mrs. Fulcher were the Associate Professor of Nursing at WV Wesleyan College where she assisted the faculty in achieving accreditation from the American Nurse’s Association; while working at the  WV State Health Department she was coordinator of the services of 12 counties for 17 years; and also administered the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Program in W. Va.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Howard Fulcher, Sr., and son, Paul Howard Fulcher, Jr.

Mrs. Fulcher is survived by her daughter-in-law, Martha; granddaughters, Lauren, Megan and Ally; 1 brother and 4 sisters.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday August 7, 2016 at the Buckhorn Methodist Church Snowhill Road, Mt. Nebo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hilltop Methodist Church or Buckhorn Methodist Church building funds and will be received by Juanita Cavendish, Mt. Nebo, W. Va. 26679.
