Jonathan Howell Akers, 21, formerly of Charleston, WV, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at his residence in Long Beach, CA.
Jonathan was a 2016 graduate of Hurricane High School, and most recently was a student at WVU and WV State University. We will cherish the memories of his adventurous spirit, his love of mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking and camping.
He is survived by his parents, Jon & Jeannie Akers, and grandparents, Fred & Karen Akers and Bob & Blair Howell all of Charleston.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek. A committal service will follow at French Cemetery in Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.mountainmission.com in memory of Jonathan.
So sorry for your loss. I hope you find peace and meaning and loving memories in the days to come. So sorry we could not be there on Sunday. We will always have fond memories of your family. ?
Jonathan Akers,
I remember you so positively as my student a “while ago,” and meeting you downtown more recently, and then seeing your son’s obituary in the paper was so shocking. Please accept my sympathies in this sorrowful moment.

I am truly sorry for Jonathan’s friends and family, my deepest condolences. Losing someone in death is one of the hardest things we will face in life. There is a truly comforting promise at Acts 24:15 “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Imagine that day when all our dear loved ones are resurrected and reunited with us forever again. How we long for that day.
