WhittingtonRavenell Joyce  Turley Whittington, 79, of Charleston passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at CAMC General MICU in Charleston.

She was a 1955 graduate of Washington District High School.  She loved to play her guitar and sing gospel music.  Ravenell was a Nazarene by faith and attended Hissom Tabernacle in recent months.

Ravenell was preceded in death by her parents, James Paul & Ethel Loftus Turley, husbands, Bennie Turley and Lawrence Whittington.

She is survived by sons, Johnny, Charles and Kelly (Jean) Turley; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; brothers, James and Eugene Turley; sisters, Juanita DeBord, Norma Blankenship and Carol Linger.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with her son, Kelly Turley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the funeral services.

she was my mamaw. and I miss her so much more than anything. she was there for me when no one else was…I used to call her whenever dad was mad and ask her to call him and ask if he would bring me up so I can “wash dishes” just so I could see her and talk to her….I was the last person to ever see her at her home…I called the last ambulance….I regret sooo much especially not being able to stay with her during her last moments…I miss u mamaw…I loves you…..kristan turley

Just found out about Ravenel. So very sorry. We are not home in WV and don’t get information as we should. You are all in my prayers. Angie

Was so sorry to read of a former classmates passing, remember her from WDHS and playing the guitar in church on Crooked Creek Road, condolences from myself James Sigmon & wife Mary Ann.
