I grew up on Tom’s until we moved to St. Albans when I was eight years old. We lived just down the hollow from the Smiths. Gladys used to baby sit my sister Kay and me. I will always remember Gladys and her beautiful smile. She was a lot of fun to be around, she made you feel accepted and welcome. When Bill would pass our house on the way up to court ‘N’ Gladys, he would always stop and tease Kay. Gladys and I talked about that the last time I visited her shortly after Bill had passed away. Even though it was a difficult time for her then, she was still able to share memories past, with a smile on her face and warmth in her heart. I shall always remember her and her family Fred, Thelma, Lou, Joe, and Junior. Last but not least, Roger, My best buddy way back then. I will miss you Gladys.

Gladys was a wonderful woman. No one was every a stranger and she made everyone feel welcome in her house. I loved staying with her when I was young. She will be truly missed.

Grew up with Gladys and Bill on Tom’s Fork. We went to the church that my Grandpa Spurlock and Mr. Blakenship built. May she rest in peace.
