
Robert L. Young, 86, of Alum Creek, entered Heaven August 27, 2026, after a brief illness.
II Cor. 5:8, We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Bob was the second child born to the late Robert Franklin and Bessie Hanson Young. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and David.
He graduated from Duval High School in 1958 and joined the United States Army, enlisted from 1959-1963, stationed in Germany. On an extended leave, he dropped off an Army buddy in Oak Hill, WV. That’s where he met the love of his life, the late Shirley Ball Young. Shirley passed in 2016, but they shared 49 years of marriage and two daughters.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Lisa Young of Alum Creek and Debbie (Michael) Quintrell of Yawkey; siblings, Vada Young of Alum Creek and Pansy Holstein of Danville; nephews, Robert and Wayne Holsein and many friends.
Bob was a member of Eden Baptist Church. He loved his church family and was a faithful attendee until the last three weeks when his health failed.
Service will be 1:00pm, Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Eden Baptist Church, Griffithsville with Pastors Rick Cooper and Jason Price officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.
