Michael S. Hughes

Michael S. Hughes, 61, of Drawdy, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday January 25, 2012.

Mike was born on February 18, 1950, to Fred and Nettie (Miller) Hughes and was a lifelong resident of Boone County. He was an electrician in the coal mines and member of the UMWA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending his time outdoors with his family and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Roger Pauley.

He is survived by his wife of 39 ½ years, Mollie Ann Atkins Hughes; his sons, Michael L. “Mickey” (and Angie) Hughes and Matthew R. (and Sarah) Hughes;granddaughters Vanessa Brooke Hughes and Ammie Nichole Hughes all of Drawdy; his siblings, Freeda (and LeRoy) Crockett of Woodville, Gloria Jean Pauley of Hamlin, Dessie (and Thurman) Lovejoy of Woodville, George (and Sharon) Hughes of Drawdy and Danny (and Teresa) Hughes of Alum Creek; Special Cousin Johnny (and Susie) Long of Sod; special nephews Roger “Peanut” (and Mary) Pauley of Griffithsville, and Travis “Booger” (and Aleisha) Pritt of Stoutsville, Ohio; special Niece Betty “BJ” (and Travis) Jarrell of Drawdy; “grandkids” Branden Jarrell and Layne Daniel of Drawdy and Kate Wall of Comfort; and a host of family and friends.

A graveside service will be 1:00 PM Friday January 27, 2012 at the Hughes Family Cemetery Ely Road, Sumerco, with Pastors Roger Halstead and Roger Pauley officiating.

 Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek in care of arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Armstrong Hospice House at Thomas Memorial Hospital for their excellent care during Mike’s final days.

Matthew, We are all sorry for your loss, you and your family have had a tough road for sometime now. We know how proud you were of your Dad because you spoke so much about him. I’m sure he knew what a wonderful family he had that took the best of care for him and theres no doubt that God has him in his care now. All of his pain and heartach are gone. We are all here for you and your family
