Michael L. Pauley

Michael Leigh Pauley, 68, of South Charleston, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 30, 2018. He was born September 15, 1950, at Staats Hospital on the elevator. His mother shared with him that life would always be full of ups and downs.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Cleo Pauley, father-in-law JR Stewart, mother-in-law, Anna Lee Stewart, sister Diana Curry, brothers-in-law Larry King and Danny Stewart.

Mike was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Garrett’s Bend, WV, where he served as song leader, choir director and Sunday school teacher. He retired from Clearon Corporation. Mike served in the U. S. Army First Infantry stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and was known for his red and white 1957 Chevrolet. He is loved and missed by many.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Drema Pauley, daughter Erica (Jason) Sampson of Charleston, son Jody (Beth) Pauley of Dunbar, grandchildren Jack Pauley and Elias Sampson, sister Patty King of Sod, brother Steve (Gloria) Pauley of Scranton, PA, a host of nephews and nieces, and special extended family Tim and Dinah McCallister of South Charleston, Cyrena, Matt, Ranger and Tennessee Parsons of Sod, Casey, Mike and Daniel Patick of Huntington, his Church Family and Car Show Friends.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with his son Pastor Jody Pauley, Pastor Homer Hensley, Mark Ruby and Jacob Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV, with Military Graveside Rites.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gwendolyn Fonebi, Fifi, the staff at the CAMC Cancer Center, Nurses and Hospitalists on 4C at CAMC General Hospital and Kanawha Hospice for their loving care and kindness.

Jason Lee Runyon

Jason Lee Runyon, 46, of Sod, WV, was born on October 9, 1972 and died suddenly Monday, November 26, 2018, from an accidental gunshot wound.

He was a 1991 graduate of Duval High School and later graduated from Wilson Technical Institute in Wilson, NC.   Jason worked as a heavy equipment operator for Kanawha Stone and various other companies in WV and NC.

Jason enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved playing his guitar.

On March 31, 1996, he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized that day by his uncle Damon Dunlap and Pastor Roe Smith.   Mistakes, problems, and difficulties followed, but he always knew that God loved him and was in control.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents Lee and Lorraine Hornsby and William and Verna Runyon.

Left to cherish his memories and deeply mourn his death are his parents Louie and Connie Runyon, sister Jenny (Jeremy) Angel of Saint Paris, Ohio, son Eli Runyon of Sumerco, and baby Isaac, the son of his heart,  girlfriend Mindy, two nephews, a niece, several aunts, uncles and many cousins and friends.

Those who knew Jason will always remember and laugh about his funny stories and tall tales.

A celebration of his life will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.

The family sends a special love and appreciation to Pastor Isaiah Hatfield and Minister Kim Matthews who will be officiating the service.

 

Darrell Eugene Harmon

Darrell Eugene Harmon, 76, of St. Albans, WV, went home Thursday, November 22, 2018 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

He was a Master Electrician and served in the U. S. Navy from 1960 – 1964.   He  was of the Baptist faith.

Darrell was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy L. Harmon, sister Emma Pena`, Roxie Pitts, Stella Markland, Margaret Plye,  and Mary Miller, brothers Denzil and David Harmon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Pearl, daughter Susan, sisters Vera Miller, Velma Cabelo and Patsy Harmon, brothers Kessel (Norma), Donald and Kyle Harmon.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Griffithsville.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

We, the family and staff, of Curry Funeral Home would like to express our gratefulness to Darrell Harmon and his family for his dedication and hard work he had completed for printing past funeral records of Curry Funeral Home.    Many have expressed their appreciation to us for his work.

 

 

 

Dannie Bruce Johnston

Dannie Bruce Johnston, 74, of Sod, WV, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

He worked as a carpenter all his life, also finishing concrete and laying block.   Dannie loved to hunt, fish and raise a garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. and Olive Johnson, wife of 30 years Rose Mary, sisters Betty Johnson, Jana Justice and Helen Johnson, brother and sister-in-law Thomas Jr. “Buddy” and Loretta Johnson, brothers-in-law Larry Young, Londis Justice and Russell Turley, and grandchildren Michael Johnston and Ray Ray Huffman.

Dannie is survived by his children Drema (Frank) Taylor, Michael Johnston and Anita (Randy) Anderson all of Ohio and Vicky Chapman and fiancee Eddie Jackson of Milton; step-children Judy (David) Shewbert, Cindy Huffman, Patrick (Britt) Woodrum, Kathy Daniels and Becky Boggs, 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, sisters Ellen Johnson, Lillian Smith, Loretta J. Turley and Marie Young, brothers Forrest G. (Rose) Johnston, Stanley “Josh” (Carolyn) Johnson and Henry W. “David” Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House for their wonderful care.

A memorial service for both Dannie and Rose Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Johnson Family Cemetery, Alkol, WV.

 

Robert “Bobby” Forest

Robert Rob “Bobby” Forest, 51, of Sumerco, WV, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 18, 2018, with his family and friends by his side after a 7 month battle with cancer.

He worked as an ATM Tech for Loomis. Rob loved music and was a very talented and gifted musician. He was a valuable member of the Praise Band at Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years Stella, children Laura (Josh) Caladros, William (Sunni) Karnes II, Tommy Forest, and Kari (Wes) Smith, brother Kevin (Alicia) Forest, grandchildren Adrianna, Aubree, and Harrison and many close friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of his life  will be held at  6:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, at the Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans, with Pastor Jason Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387.

 

Dora Jean Burcham

Dora Jean Burcham, 71, of Charleston, WV, went to Heaven Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was a member of the Sissonville Women’s Club and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.  She spoke of often and always missed her work family at Piggly Wiggly.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Burcham and mother Vivian Parsons Holstein.

She is survived by son Matthew Burcham (Gary Boggs) and Derek Burcham (Lindsay Parsons), grandson Blake, and special friend Dreama VanHoose.

There will be no services.

Inurnment will be at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.

 

Thelma Florene “Flo” Tucker Coiner, 94, of Parkersburg, WV, formerly of McCorkle, WV, entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.  She and her twin sister Alma Lorene Blake, was born on April 21, 1924 daughters of Jennings Francis Tucker and Beulah Gertrude Wright Tucker.

Florene was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Sergeant Major William H. Coiner, who passed away in 2002, and son Ralph E. “Spike” Coiner (his living children, Katy & Cole Coiner). She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Leona Wilson, Lorene Blake, Calvin Tucker, Cleo Burgess, and grandson, Timmy Marker.

Following her marriage to Bill Coiner in 1947 she traveled around the world with him as he was a career Army man, living in Japan, Germany and several United States locations.  Bill and Florene settled on Ely Road in McCorkle in 1962.

She is survived by her son William “Jink” Coiner and his wife, Brenda along with their children Kelly (Darren) Galisky, Debbie (Ryan) Kimble and Mike (Anda) Coiner.  Florene is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a long time member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.  She loved her church and loved all of her brothers and sisters in Christ.  Mama Flo or Grandma Flo as she was affectionately known by many, was a sweet caring woman that couldn’t pass up the opportunity to fix a meal with buttermilk biscuits or pinto beans and cornbread.  She couldn’t wait to get “Home” and see her Momma.

Services will be 1:00pm Monday, November 19, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Rev. Roe Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday, November 18th.

 

Betty Jane Lacy

Betty Jane Lacy, 86, of Pine Grove, WV, went home to the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018, with family by her side. She was preceded in death by her son Harse Lacy, her siblings Emma Pauley, Magdalene Barker, and Martha, Ellsworth, and Glen Gillispie. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Cline Lacy, her sister, Mae Dunlap, her children Vinell Lacy, Skip (Tammy) Lacy, Randall (Brenda) Lacy, Ashley (Debbie) Lacy, and Marlene (John) Solberg.
She is loved and missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends that have become family. To name a few, her grandchildren Chastity, Miranda, Preston, Nick, Chris, and Amanda, her great-grandchildren Emma and Collin, her niece Donna “Tootsie” Hill, and friend Teresa Fillinger, will carry her with them every day.
As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, she lived her life selflessly. She began her life humbly in Fork Creek, in a small, one-room house shared with her siblings and beloved dog, Shep. She worked tirelessly for her family, overcoming even the most impossible tasks, building a house that everyone called home.
Her strength was unmatched, her conviction in her faith unwavering, and the love that she gave, truly remarkable. We can all find peace in our hearts knowing she will live forever in the light of God.
Per her wishes, there will be no service. She wanted us to remember her as she was, celebrate the life she had, and rejoice in knowing she is home.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4.

Virgil Thomas Pauley

Virgil Thomas Pauley, 93, of Yawkey, WV, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 12, 2018, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served aboard the submarines USS Sea Poacher and the USS Entemedor in the South Pacific during World War II. He was the owner and operator of Pauley Battery and a member of the Masonic AF&AM Kanawha Lodge 20 and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Charleston Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

Virgil was a member of the former Amy Baptist Church at Yawkey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Oxley Pauley, great-grandson Zachary Ryan Burk and brother Gene Pauley.

Virgil is survived by his daughter Katherine (Frank) Kilburn, granddaughter Melissa (Marty) Burk, and great-grandson Noah Austin Burk.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the U. S. Navy.

Anna Lee Stewart

Anna Lee Stewart, 86, of South Charleston went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 10, 2018.   Anna Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Icie Gillispie, husband, JR Stewart, and son Danny Stewart.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Anna Lee was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Garretts Bend, WV. As a devoted educator, Mrs. Stewart spent over 35 years as a teacher and principal in Kanawha County.

She is survived by her daughter, Drema (Mike) Pauley of South Charleston, grandchildren, Robbie (Beth) Stewart of South Charleston, Tina (Christian) Hill of Hurricane, Erica (Jason) Sampson of Charleston, Jody (Beth) Pauley of Dunbar, Jason Stewart of Peytona, great- grandchildren, Stanton Hill, Jack Pauley and Elias Sampson and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Stewart of South Charleston. Special Extended Family, Tim and Dinah McCallister of South Charleston, Cyrena and Matt, Ranger, Tennessee Parsons of Sod, Casey and Mike, Daniel Patick of Huntington, Rodney and Vickie Caruthers of Charleston.

Services will be 6:00pm Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Jody Pauley, Homer Hensley and Brother Mark Ruby officiating.  Family & friends will gather two hours prior to the service.

Entombment will be 10:00am Friday, November 16th at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.
