Patsy Hesse (2)Patsy Ann Purdy Hesse, 74, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord and her great grandson Brayden.

She was an employee at Shoney’s in South Charleston for 35 years.

Patsy was also predeceased by her parents, Hyland and Brookie Purdy.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Pam) Bias of South Charleston; daughters,  Debbie (Jimmy) Means of South Charleston and  Mary (Michael) Stewart of Nitro; grandchildren, Kenny, Justin, Chuck, Kayla, Dee, Mark, Susie & Little Debbie; great grandchildren, Emily, Tori, C.D., Haley, Aleigha, Caiden, Waylon, Bella and Easton; sister, Judy (Dutch) Ferrell; nieces, Sarah Ramsey and Dorothy Peter;  very close special cousin, Sue Priestley; and longtime friends, Jean Turley, Helen Parsons and Cindy Bias.

Service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Gary Ray Jenkins

Gary Jenkins photoGary Ray Jenkins, 63, Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 9, 2016, after a long illness.

Son of the late Howard R. and Wilma Bender Jenkins of St. Albans.  He was also preceded in death by his brother David W. Jenkins, maternal grandparents Carl and Lora Bender, paternal grandparents John and Mary Jenkins, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gary was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, a 1969 graduate of St. Albans High School and retired from Patrick Street K-Mart after 18 years of service.

He is survived by son, Franklin R. Jenkins, Alum Creek, sister, Wanda Jenkins, St. Albans, several aunts, an uncle and many cousins and friends.

Although raised in the city Gary preferred the quiet and peaceful country life.  He spent many years enjoying farming in Red House and Alum Creek.  He loved caring for animals, gardening, and working on cars, tractors and other equipment.  He especially loved making and eating his homemade Concord grape jelly.

Franklin and Wanda sincerely appreciate all the prayers, cards, phone calls and visits providing emotional support throughout Gary’s illness.  Words cannot express how grateful we will always be for Hospice Care, especially, Melanie, Sallie, Libby, Marilyn and Ashley.  They allowed Gary to rest in the comfort of his own home.  Special thanks also to countless family members including Jeannette Jenkins, Jennifer Bennett, Gerald and Barb Jenkins, our church family, neighbors, and special friends Robert and Sue Johnson for daily expressions of love and support.

Services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith George officiating.  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.  The family would like to encourage everyone to join them for a meal at Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek, following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536 or to a charity of your choice.

Virginia Pinkie Harless (2)Virginia Evelyn “Pinkie” Harless, 89, of Alum Creek, daughter of the late James Gullion and Katherine Meickles, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Meadowbrook Acres in Charleston.

She retired from the Dietary Department at CAMC Memorial Hospital; she was a member of Brier Creek Baptist Church; and she loved cooking for her family and her church family at all the gatherings.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Leighton Harless; son, Rick; grandson, Phillip Smith; beloved special grandparents, Bedford and Grace Harrison; sisters, Mona Barnhart, Vada Mooney and Dorothy Thaxton; and brother, Tommy Meickles.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Art) Smith and Nora Harless; sons, Bruce (Debbie), Billy (Becky) and Bobby (Anissa); 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; sisters,  Delores (Bob) Hill, Rebecca Phipps and Ella Rae Myers; and brother, Lenzy (Brenda) Meickles.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12th, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Butch Leadman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jimmy Berry

James Barry

Jimmy Ray Berry, 53, of Morrisvale, passed away  suddenly Thursday, April 7, 2016 at home of an apparent heart attack.

He  served in the U. S. Army, and worked as a mechanic and also in the timber business.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Christy; children, Scotty Messer, Jasmine Berry Workman and Matthew Berry; parents, Weldin “Speed” and Patricia Berry; brothers, Bobby and Gary; sisters, Brenda Jackson and Mary Jarrell; several grandchildren; and very close friend Steve Gibson.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Barker Cemetery, Mud River.

 

Larry Gene Mannon

Larry Mannon

Larry Gene Mannon of Yawkey, WV, born November 27,1947 and at the age of 68 has went home to be with his Lord and his beloved wife Elliene Griffith Mannon on Tuesday the 5th day of April in the year of our Lord 2016 after a short term illness at the Huntington VA Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Oscar and Nellie Nunn Mannon.

Larry was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was retired from Lincoln Roofing at Sod and had recently become a Christian.

He is survived two daughters Reah (Mark) Fain of Beckley, and Wendy (Matt)  Ingold of Columbus, Ohio.  Three sons Rod Adkins of Yawkey, Jeff Spalding of Peytona, and Ken Adkins of Yawkey, brother Jerry( Becky) Mannon of Sod, sister Anna Mae (Corky) Doran of Kanawha 2 mile, nine grandchildren, Britney Searls, Rhonda Canterbury, Taylor Hood, Alaina Ingold, Chase Ingold, Devon Dunlap, Derek Adkins, Austin Adkins, Natausha Adkins, four great grandchildren Kylee Adkins, Curtis Canterbury, Caiden Canterbury and Kentlee Adkins.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 8, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Charles Kidd officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW will follow at the Griffith Family Cemetery Yawkey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Valerie Lynn Thomas

Valerie Lynn Thomas, 64, of Alum Creek went to sleep at home with her family by her side Friday, April 1, 2016.

She was a former employee of D. G. Airways in Charleston and also worked several years at the Boulevard Exxon.  She was a member of the Crooked Creek Church of God.

Valerie was preceded in death by her mommy, Myrtle Wheeler and mother, Mary Jo Wheeler.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward R. “Sonny” Thomas; sons, John E. (Barbara) Thomas and Michael W. Thomas; granddaughter, Faith Allie Lynn Thomas and her mother, Rachael Jarrett; brothers, Keith Myers and Mike Wheeler; sister, Lisa Plybon; and several other family members who will miss her dearly.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

John Mark Trimble

John Mark Trimble, 65, of Buckhannon, formerly of Tornado, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Barbour Street Group Home in Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Berchie Trimble; sisters, Mary Doris and Clara; brothers, Bill, Dana and David.

John is survived by his sisters, Martha Lawrence, Nancy Keith and Paula Kay Angle; brother, Ellis Trimble; loving niece, Ruth Ann Martin and other family members.

Service will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Trimble Cemetery in Tornado.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
