Joyce HillJoyce Null Hill, 79 of Belle, passed away peacefully to go home to be with her children Harry Jr, Alice, Larry and Robert Allen.

Also preceding her in death was her parents Brady and Dorothy Hudson brother Gary and sister Patsy.

Joyce was born December 24, 1935 and passed away Sunday December 13, 2015 at CAMC General. She graduated from South Charleston High School and retired from One Valley Bank.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy K. Kernutt and husband Mike of Oregon, brother and sister by choice: Tommy and Dianna Green of Belle and several nieces and nephews and her aunt Barbara “Bobbie” Parsons.

Graveside service and burial will be 1:00 Thursday December 17, at Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Kernutt officiating.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday December 16 at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek.

Virginia Marie HolsteinVirginia Marie Holstein, 52, of Alum Creek, known to all who loved her as “Nunny”  went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 11, 2015.

Nunny was a Christian and attended Olcott Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Doris Kirk; nephew, Mason Dale Kirk, who she raised like a son; guardian, Garrett Holstein; and brother, Bubby Holstein.

Nunny is survived by her husband of 36 years, Roger; loving son, Michael; and the apple of her eye, Mayleigh Grace; guardian, Mary Holstein; brother, Mason “Hot Rod” Kirk; sisters, Alpha “Sissy” Kirk, Debbie Lynn Kirk, Lisa (Ronnie) Kirk, Debbie Sue (Mark) Kirk and Chrissy (Marvin) Kirk; niece Joan Meeker, nephews, T. J. Estep and Nick (Stacy) Kirk; and many other great nieces, nephews and family members.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Martha Kirk and Joey Holstein officiating.  Burial will follow at Holstein Cemetery in Dartmont.   The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Martha Kirk, who was there thru it all for Nunny; and also, Dr. James Frame, Nurse Karen and Shawnna Walker.

Nell Marie Moore

Neil MooreNell Marie Moore, 81, of South Charleston died of a long illness on Friday, December 11, 2015 at her home.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother.  She made a wonderful home for her family.  She was an excellent cook and provided hospitality to all who entered her home.  She loved working in her flowers and enjoyed planting over 100 different species of plants in her beautiful yard.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.  She will be missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Raymond & Verna Legg; brothers, Charles, Raymond, Lewis, Thomas, and Okey Legg and sister, Donna Patterson.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Arley F. Moore; sons: David Moore and his wife, Beth of Columbus, OH and Edward Moore and his wife, Nancy of Lexington, SC; daughters, Donna Moore and Arlene Hudson and her husband, Robert, all of Charleston, WV; grandchildren: Cody Moore and his fiancée, Dominique Martinez; Haley Moore, Heather Gacek, Hannah Gacek and Seth Moore; brothers: Jerry Legg and his wife, Noami, and Bob Legg and his wife June and sister-in-law, Betty Legg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Monday, December 14, 2015, at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with the Rev. Monsignor Edward Sadie officiating.  Interment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

 

Daniel Neil Childress

Daniel Neil Childress, 66, of St. Albans went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Saturday, December 5, 2015 with his loving wife and family by his side at Select Specialty Care, Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston.

He was born April 30, 1949 to the late James D. and Emma Lee Baker Childress.  He struggled for many years battling diabetes, renal failure and vascular disease.

Neil was a 1967 graduate of Hurricane High School.  He worked in management most of his life with job transfers to Asheville, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida where he resided for 23 years.  He was a devout Christian and a member of Maranatha Fellowship. He drove the church bus in both Asheville and Jacksonville.  Neil touched so many lives being an awesome man of God.  He had such an infectious personality and was loved by so many people.

Also preceding him in death was his son, Derick Lee Childress, with whom he is now rejoicing in heaven.

He is survived by the love of his life, caretaker and wife of 35 years, Donna Goins Childress; brother, Roger (Sharon) Childress; children, Jeramie of Milton, Crystal (Jimmy) Elswick, and Shannon (Austin) Silva all of Middleburg, FL, Sherman “Bubby” Bennett of Culloden and Amethyst Childress, who resides with his wife, Donna, in St. Albans; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Terry Hogue officiating.  Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to P.A. June Wilson for her compassionate care of Neil and the family; Pastor Nicole Stewart, as well as, many others for praying, singing to  and supporting our family during this difficult time; and also Zachary Cole and Dave Simmons for their care and support.

 

James E. Harper, Jr.

James Harper, Jr.James Edward Harper, Jr., 74, of Sissonville passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at home.

He was a 30 year employee of Broughton Dairy and also a member of the Teamsters Local #175.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Goldie Harper; and siblings, Benton, Delores, Thelma and Marie.

He is survived by his son, James E. Harper III; daughters, Kathleen (Ben) Hogue, Melissa (Coy) Payne and Victoria (Robert) Hudson; sisters, Meretha (Harold) White and Charlotte Smith; brother, Deanea Harper and Roger (Shirlene) Harper; six grandchildren, Ben Jr., Amber, Mitchell, Rachel, Andrea and Rebecca; and great granddaughter, Kensley.

Burial will be at  a later date at B.J. Means Memorial Cemetery, South Charleston, WV.

 

Christopher David Callison

Christopher CallisonChristopher David Callison, 44, of Griffithsville, WV, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on Sunday, November 29, 2015.

Chris was born in Charleston, WV on April 26, 1971, was a graduate of Dupont High School and attended Southern WV Community Technical College. He was a dedicated worker, family provider, and skilled journeyman electrician.

He attended McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church, loved God, and enjoyed reading the Bible.

He was an avid hunter and accomplished bow shooter.  Chris was a loving Christian, husband, father, son and brother who impacted many lives with his faith, strength and love.

He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Jack and Evelyn Callison and maternal grandparents Brady and Julia Bowe.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years;  Karen; daughters, Christina and Jessica Callison; parents, Reverend David and Shirley Callison of Griffithsville; sisters, Kym Barnett (husband Mark) of North Carolina and Terri Collins (husband Jeff) of Pennsylvania; nephews, Mark Anthony and Jordan Barnette, Zachary and Logan Collins; nieces, Lyndsi Weber, Kelsie and Brianna Boyd; great nieces, Bella and Julianna; great nephews, Hayden and Kaden; father-in-law, Dennis (Bucky) Hodge; mother-in-law, Geraldine Boyd; brother-in-law, Greg Boyd (wife Kim); and his beloved dog Clyde.

Services will be 1:00pm on Thursday, December 3rd, at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Jody Pistore officiating.  Burial will follow at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.  Family and friends will gather from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at the funeral home.

Rev. Basil Roland Hudson

Basil HudsonRev. Basil Roland Hudson, 74, of Scott Depot went home to be with his Lord  and Savior on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at CAMC Teays Valley.

Basil announced his call to the ministry in 1972 and was ordained as a Baptist Minister.  He contiued his education at Moody Bible Institute.  He served as pastor of  Olive Baptist Church, Sycamore Grove Baptist Church,  Twenty-sixth Street Baptist Church in Huntington, and the Leon Baptist Church.

He was currently a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher; and also continued to hold revivals, visiting the sick, elderly and anyone in need.

Basil enjoyed golfing and landscaping.  He loved spending time with the grandchildren and attending their games and activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Eufa Hudson and brother, Carter Hudson.

Basil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda; daughter, Teresa Gillmor; son, Brian (Pam) Hudson; grandchildren, Zoe Gillmor, Matthew, Lauren and Emily Hudson; brothers, Paul (Doris) Hudson and David (Mary) Hudson; sisters, Esther (Nile) Long, Annabelle (Gene) Monk, Naomi McCracken, Rachel (Chuck) Kinder and Sharon McClure; and a host of friends that God has blessed him with through 43 years of ministry.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 28th, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mt. Vernon Road, Hurricane with Pastor Ron McClung officiating.  Entombment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Delores JavinsDelores “Dose” Morris-Javins, 85, of Ashford went to rest, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at her Emmons residence.

She was born July 3, 1930 to the late Scott and Brookie Pauley Bell.  Delores worked hard all her life and loved being in the woods.  She always looked forward to spring to be the first to find molly moochers.  She loved and cherished her family dearly.

Delores was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Morris and Charles “Doggie” Javins; brothers, G. L. and David; sisters, Nana Alice and Francis Power; and step daughter, Darlene (Rex) Butcher.

She is survived by children, Phillip (Denene) Morris, Barry (Tina) Morris, Cathy Morris and her companion, Steve Smith; grandchildren, Charlie, Erik, Gary (Jill), Katie (Anthony) Balla and Zachary Morris; great-granddaughter, Summer Morris; brothers, Jack, Don and Larry Bell; sister, Phyllis Blankenship; stepchildren Charles (Samantha) Javins and Gayle (Christi) Javins;  step-grandchildren, Melissa, Cassy, Nikki, Tiffany, Kayla, Courtney and Cody; step-great-grandchildren, Nolan Stephen, Ian and Khloe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating.  Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice Staff with special thanks to our angels, Sallie, Marilyn, Libby, Jack, Melanie, Ashley and Dr. Jack Kinder.

Betty Sue (Lanier) Bell

Betty BellBetty Sue (Lanier) Bell, 60, of South charleston died Sunday, November 15, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after an unexpected illness.

She was born November 2, 1955 to the late John W. Lanier, Sr. and Margaret Eloise (Knapp) Lanier.

Betty was preceded in death by her brother, James D. Lanier.

She is survived by her loving husband, Freddy E. Bell II; sons, Christopher Parsons (Marcie) and Larry Parsons, Jr. (Ashley); three grandchildren, Justin, Abbey and Brier Parsons; sister, Janet Turley (Phil) of South Charleston; brothers, Daniel Lanier (Dessie) of South Charleston and John Lanier (Lori) of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Lanier of St. Albans and Sherri (Bell) Rabel of St. Albans and a host of nieces, nephews, two great nieces, cousins and many friends.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with the Rev. Mike Long officiating.  Burial will follow at the Beech Hill Cemetery located at Pliny, West Virginia.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Thursday with the service beginning  following the visitation.

 

 

Greathel LovejoyGreathel Marie “Goat” Baire Lovejoy, 79, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 16, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.

She attended Brier Creek Baptist Church.

Greathel was preceded in death by her parents, Haden and Mary Baire; infant son, Elvis Lee Baire; and brothers, Adam, Willie and David Baire.

She is survived by her son, Rocky Baire; syblings, Basil (Joyce) Baire, Junie (Buddy) Kirk, Martha Holstein, Linzie (Janet) Baire, Bawfurd and Bob Baire, William (Donna) Baire, Joyce (Danny) Pauley, Hazel (Terry) Rabel and Mary (Barney) Johnson; and several nieces, newphews and other family.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Rev. Frank D. Parsons officiating.  Burial will follow at Brounland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
