Linda  L. Curry, 69, of Hamlin went home to the  Lord with her family by her side Friday, April 30, 2010 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

After raising her family she was employed at United Health Care and PEIA.  She was a member of Hamlin Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter and father, Ernest Burns.

She is survived by her husband, Fred,  of 51 years.

The joy of her life was her 12 grandchildren: Daniel (Ashley) Hager; Bobbi & Bethany Swan; Lindsey & Matthew Hager; Haley, Taylor & Chase Curry; Sean, Josh, Trace & Zach Adkins.

Family and friends may gather Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday with visitation 1 hour prior at Handley Funeral Home, New Hamlin, with Minister Brian Barrett officiating.  Burial will be in Harvey’s Creek Cemetery, Hamlin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Linda Curry to Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, Attn: Lynn Jarrell,  1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington, WV 25701.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Keblawi and Dr. Oakley and the Oncology Staff at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Jewel Helen Pauley Miller

Jewel Helen Pauley Miller, 79, of Alkol went to be with the Lord and our Daddy Wednesday April 28, 2010 with her family by her side. A devout Christian, she was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Alkol.

She was born November 29, 1930 in Morrisvale and was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County.

Her greatest joys were her church and her family.
She worked hard to provide for her family in jobs she loved as a Mother, Owner of DJ Super Dollar of Salt Rock, and a retired mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband Dorsey Miller of Alkol, WV; parents Clayton and Myrtle Burns Pauley; brothers Hank Pauley, Carl Pauley, Gene Pauley, Jimmy Pauley; and sisters Grace Mitchell, Wanda Holstein, Betty Thompson.

Survived by sister Barbara “Boots” Antill of Madison, WV and an extended family.

Vincent Huffman

Vincent Huffman, 84, of Alum Creek, died on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Glasgow. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWard and Maude Huffman, and brothers Charles and Clark Huffman.

He was a truck driver.

He is survived by his fiance, Mary Owen, children Vincent Allen (Ester) Huffman, Gary Wayne (Noma) Huffman, Carol Sue (Paul) Smith, Yvonne (David) Milam, Brian Huffman and Michelle Huffman, special step-daughter Crissy Owen. Brother Frank Huffman and sister Beatrice “Bee” Childress. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11:30 am Saturday, May 1, 2010 at French Cemetery Charleston with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will be no visitation.

Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Martha “Ninnie” Lester Callentine, 69, of Alum Creek, formerly of Rushville, Ohio and Davin, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday April 23, 2010 at Thomas Memorial Hospital South Charleston after an extended illness.

She was born April, 6, 1941 at Verner, a daughter of the late Tilden and Oma Grimmett Lester.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Roger Callentine, seven brothers, Bob, Mayo, Clay, Okey, James “Hotrod”, Raymond and Tilden Jr. Lester; four sisters, Inez and Patricia Lester, Bonnie Harper, and Ernestine Browing.

Along with her husband she was former owner of Muffler Man in Lancaster and Athens, Ohio. She attended Davin and Pine Grove Baptist churches.

Surviving her is her son Michael A. (Gena) Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, two grandsons, Jeremy  of Rushville, Ohio, and Zachary (Mae) Callentine of Logan, Ohio, one granddaughter, Nikki Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, one great grandson, Levi Callentine of Rushville, Ohio. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Hall of Alum Creek and June (Charles) Brumfield of Claypool; two brothers Kermit Lester of Sumter, South Carolina and H. L. “Popeye” (Pauline) Lester of Davin; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 27, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Randal “Butch” Brogan and John Spears officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Pecks Mill, West Virginia. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Pall bearers will be Zachary Callentine, Mike Minney, Bobby Allen, Jr., James Short, David Harper, Sean Harper, and Patrick Lester.

Wetzel Caldwell Sansom

Wetzel Caldwell Sansom, 71, of Sod passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Thomas Hospital after a short illness.

He is survived by his brother Basil Sansom of Sod.

A direct burial will Sunday April 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Bladwin Family Cemetery at Secoal in Boone County.

Olive G. Johnson

Olive G. Johnson, 94, of Sod went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at home with her family by her side.   She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  Olive was a member of Sycamore Grove Baptist Church at Alkol and a lifelong resident of Lincoln County.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Daniel and Rosa Breedlove; her husband of 53 years, Thomas F.; daughter, Little Betty Ann; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. “Buddy” and Loretta Johnston; granddaughter, Deborah Justice; three great-grandsons, Crae Justice, Michael H. Johnston and Gabriel Johnson; four brothers, Archie, Mansfield, Junior and Richard Breedlove; five sisters, Valley, Susan, Della, Lola and Madeline.

She leaves behind 170 descendants, including her children, Lillian Smith, Loretta J. (Russell Ray) Turley, Forrest G. (Rose), Dannie B. (RoseMary), Jana L. (Londis) Justice, Ellen F. Johnson, Helen M. Johnson, Stanley “Josh” and wife Carolyn, Henry W. “David”, and Marie (Larry) Young; one brother, Charles Breedlove; one sister, Avenell Canfield; 32 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

The family extends a special thank you to the Huntington Hospice caregivers, Brenda Bassett, Sheri Griszell and Nancy Wallace for their love and care.

Service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastors Oshel Bell and Chuck Adkins officiating.  Burial will be in the Johnson family cemetery at Alkol.  Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

 

 

Norva Gene “Peggy Murphy, 83, of Davis Creek, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday April 14, 2010 at home after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Dempsey Murphy.

Peggy was a retired nurse having 19 years of service with Union Carbide Institute Plant and several area hospitals. She was a member of the Parsons Chapel Advent Church Charleston were she had served as  a board member and secretary-treasure for many years.

She is survived by her son,    William Edward “Bill” Murphy and wife Darlene of Charleston

1 step daughter:    Linda Walker and husband Marvin of Lewisburg.

Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday April26, at the Parsons Chapel Advent Church 1449 – 6th Avenue, Charleston, with Rev. Donald Young and LeRoy Conner officiating. . Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek and one hour prior to the service  at the church.

Sonny Joe Harvey

Sonny Joe Harvey, 75 of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord  on  Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.  He has now rejoined the love of his life , Marquita “Mark” Joan Harvey.

He was  preceded in death by his parents Dell and Bess Harvey, Brother, David Pauley, and Sister, Betty Krebbs.  He was retired from Kanawha Manufacturing and was a member, deacon and adult Sunday school class teacher at Amy Baptist Church in Yawkey where he also taught a Tuesday morning prayer service.  He was  a member of the Nitro Antique Car Club.

He is survived by 1 son: Sonny Ray “Hubie” (Shyann) Harvey of Sumerco

Daughter: Sonya (John) Triplett of Sumerco

Brother: Don Pauley of So Charleston

Granddaughter: Krystal Triplett

3 great grandchildren: Makayla, Jarrett and Landon

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor George “Gale” Pauley officiating.  Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery at Sumerco.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

James “Eddie” Mooney

James “Eddie” Mooney 51 of Ashford went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 5, 2010 after a mining accident at Performance Coal Company in Montcoal, WV on Monday April 5, 2010.

Eddie was a loving husband, dad and brother. He was a member of Rumble Community Baptist Church. Eddie loved life and he loved to make people laugh. He had been in the mining industry for over 20 years. He was a hard worker and he always put his family first. He enjoyed taking his son hunting and fishing. He also liked camping and four-wheeling. On the weekends he loved to take his 1978 Corvette out for a cruise.

Eddie was born on December 19, 1958 and was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Mooney and father-in-law, Austin Kirk.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sheila Mooney

daughter and son-in-law: Misty and Eric Case of Palm Coast, Florida

14 year old  son: Austin Mooney

Mother-in-law: Jean Kirk of Ashford

six brothers and sisters: Butch and Peggy Mooney of Peytona;

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday April 16 at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Burial will follow at the Holstein Cemetery at Dartmont. Family and friends will gather from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the Rumble Community Baptist Church.

Though your smile is gone forever, and your hand I cannot touch, I still have many memories of the one I love so much. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I’ll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.

Larry Brooks “Griz”  Naylor, 62, of Morrisvale went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 2, 2010.

He was a retired miner with Hobet Mining.

He was preceded in death by his father, Beverly Naylor.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pam

Mother: Loretta Naylor

2 Brothers: Ed and Ronnie Naylor

2 Sisters: Lucille Hodges and Katherine Rose

Service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Allen officiating.  Burial will be in Lane Family Cemetery, Clendenin.  Family and friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
