Stephen Ross Brogan, 53, of Alum Creek, left us Tuesday, July 31, 2007 after an apparent heart attack.  Steve was preceded in death by his dad, Cecil H. Brogan.  He was a retired construction worker.  Steve is survived by his son, Kevin Brogan of Alum Creek; mother, Nellie E. Brogan of Alum Creek; brothers and their wives, Ed and Becky Brogan Teays Valley, David and Belva Brogan of Alum Creek and Ronnie and Judy Brogan of Alum Creek; grandchildren, Devin, Griffin and Hailie; best friend, Allen Dean Waldron; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hager Family Cemetery, Brounland Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, August 2, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Gwendolyn Nadine McCallister, 71, of Sod went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Division.  She is survived by 1 Daughter: Karen Mansfield; Son: Ronald; 3 Brothers: Bradley, Alteon & Bennett Dale Adkins; 7 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren

Service will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private burial will follow on Friday in the Miller Cemetery at Sweetland

Mary Ann McAnelly

Mary Ann McAnelly, 78, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Charleston, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at St. Frances Hospital, Beech Grove, Indiana after a long illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlan W. and Suda Gillenwater Kessinger.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Walter “Wally” Scott Rose, 51, of Alum Creek died Saturday, July 21, 2007 as a result of an apparent heart attack he had while bicycling on Wednesday with the Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club.   Wally was a chemical operator at Clearon Corporation in South Charleston with over 30 years of service. He loved bicycling, which he enjoyed for over 15 years and was a member of the Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club. He had also coached baseball for the Mountaineer Little League for several years.

He is survived by his:  Daughter: Kasey Rose of Cross Lanes; Son: James Rose of Alum Creek; Mother: Pearl Rose of Nitro; Sister: Susie Chapman of Alum Creek; Brother: David Rose of South Charleston;

Funeral service will be at 2:00 Wednesday July 25, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Minister Charles McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the M.S. Society West Virginia Division #2 Players Club Dr. Suite 104 Charleston, WV 25311 which was the organization that Wally fund raised for by participating in their annual bike ride. The family would like to give a special thank you to the bicycle club, hospital staff and other friends for their support and kindness during this difficult time especially to nurse Jamie Spencer for his outstanding support and care.

Dorothy M. McClure Chandler, 90, of So. Charleston went home to the Lord Saturday July 21, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston after a long illness.  She was preceded in death by her husbands Clifton Ellison McClure and Clyde Chandler.  She was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education and was a member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her Children: Howard “Buzzy” McClure of So. Charleston; Avis Cornell of Elyira, Ohio; Step Children: Doris Pauley of McCorkle; Richard Chandler of Charleston;  Brother: Clayton Pauley of Hamlin; 3 Grandchildren: Mark Cornell of Virginia; Alesha Weaver of Elyria, Ohio; Crystal McClure of So. Charleston; and 5 Great Grandchildren: Michael Cornell and Katy Cornell both of Virginia, Stephanie Cornell of Suffolk, Virginia, Justin Weaver and Emily Weaver both of Elyria, Ohio

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday July 24, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Kessell Ray Hughes

Kessell Ray Hughes, Sr. ,75,  of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday July 17, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Jean Hughes and son Kessell Ray Hughes Jr.   He was retired from Joe Holland Chevrolet and Jasper Engines in South Charleston and was a member of the Alum Creek Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by wife: Shirley, daughter, Deborah Wiley of Dalton, Georgia, Step daughter, Kathy Comer of Charleston, 2 Step Sons, Cecil Saddoris of Charleston, and Arthur Saddoris of Ohio, daughter-in-law Betty Hughes of So. Charleston. 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 Saturday July 21, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor David Dorsey officiating. Burial will be at Orchard Hill Memory Garden at Yawkey. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Josephine Rose “Nauny” Cash, 83, of Sod went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 16, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.  She was a retired Special Education Aid for Lincoln County Schools; a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and was a devoted & very enthusiastic Duval High School sports fan, she was our “1” fan.

She is survived by:  Twin daughters: Janet (Chuck) Cyrus & Janice Lucas both of Garretts Bend; Twin Sister: Julia Eldridge & Sister: Helen Carson both of Lansing, MI; 4 Grandchildren: Chucky, Sha, Brian & Meredith; 10 Great Grandchildren: Lee, Ashley, Melanee, Makiya, Trenton, Chenoah, Alayna, Aliyah, Joey and Nevaeh and a very special angel who gave her daily love and care, Lisa Bird.

Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Richard McCallister & Father Patrick McDonough officiating. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery, Garretts Bend. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joseph William Hoy

Joseph William Hoy, 85, of Charleston passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at home after a short illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents Peter Pierce and Estella May Roberts Hoy, step-mother Gertrude Bumpus Hoy wife Chloe Saul Hoy and son Stephen Hoy.  Joe was a Navy veteran of WWII, a Baptist, was retired from Peoples Life Ins. Co. with 33 years service, a member of the American Legion and AF&AM Masonic Lodge # 153 Charleston.

He is survived by: 2 Sons: Barry D. Hoy and wife Mary of Charleston; Michael Hoy and wife Marion of Charleston;  Daughter: Barbara Jo Vance and husband Louie of Charleston; Brother: Ronald Hoy and wife Florine of Winston-Salem, North Caroline; Sisters: Viola Curran of Baltimore, Maryland; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren;

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, July 15, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastors George G. Pauley and Frank Chapman and Bill Bartlett officiating. Donald H. McCormick

Donald H. McCormick, 84, of Alum Creek passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston after a long illness.  He was a retired auto mechanic and former owner of Don’s Garage at Alum Creek, also he was a Army Veteran of WWII during which time he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Bennie Padilla VFW Post 4768 at Alum Creek and was a Baptist.  Don was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

He is survived by his Wife: Ramona; 4 Sons: Roger Dale and wife Melody McCormick of Brounland, Donald C. and wife Darla McCormick of Sproul, Daniel J. and Timothy McCormick both of Alum Creek; 2 Brothers: Charles E. McCormick of Dunkirk, Indiana; and Johnny McCormick of Malden; 4 Grandchildren: Andrea Nunn, Sarah McCormick, Josh and Jacob McCormick; 2 Great Grandchildren: Jayden and Kaylee Nunn;

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 13, at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home

Doris Lee Waldron

Doris Lee Waldron 84, of St. Albans, formerly of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord July 10, 2007 at the home of her daughter Deanna McKean.  She was born June 10, 1923 in Lincoln County and was a daughter to the late Watson and Dora Hudson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Dennis Ray Waldron, and son Douglas Ray Waldron.

Doris was a homemaker and a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church at Alum Creek.  She is survived by her daughter Deanna and son-in-law Stan McKean of St. Albans.  Three Grandchildren, Patricia Bryant of Charlestown, Indiana, Dallas Ray McKean of St. Albans and Stephanie Sansom of Sod and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, July 12, at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor George G. Pauley officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Cemetery Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
