Billy H. Thaxton, 72, of Griffithsville went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Valley Health Village, South Charleston after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Kay Thaxton, parents, Okey and Mable Thaxton; sister, Bethel Haynes and brothers, Bernard and Buddy.

Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Tim and Gail Thaxton of Yawkey; special granddaughter, who he dearly loved, Kately Thaxton; three sisters, Bessie Gandee, Bonnie Fralick and Beatrice Patterson all of Charleston; two brothers, Basil of Charleston and Ballard of Farmville, Virginia.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Walter Means officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Grace B. Rabel, 81, of South Charleston died after at Valley Health Village after an extended illness.

She was retired from Kanawha County Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ezra H. & Sadie Aleshire Graley; brothers: Earl, Everette, Emory and baby brother, Emmitt.

She is survived by her loving, devoted & caring husband: Keith

Only child & loving son-in-law: Pamela Rose & John, who also gave so very much love to Grace.

Terry C. Roberts, 69, of Alum Creek, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Valley Health Care of South Charleston after an extended illness.

Terry was a Christian. He was a retired mechanic with 23 years service for Don’s Garage in Alum Creek and ten years for E.E. Moore Construction, South Charleston.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years: Doris

Dr. Vernon William Gillenwater

Dr. Vernon William Gillenwater, 69, of Powder Springs, Georgia, formerly of Lincoln County, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Christmas day 2006 after a short illness.

He was a Church of God minister and had served as a missionary in Greece, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Karibati Islands for the Church of God. He was a graduate of Lee University, Cleveland, Tennessee and of the Church of God School of Theology where he earned his doctorate of theology. He was a Vietnam War Air Force veteran, retired from the U. S. Air Force and Lockheed Aircraft Corp. He was an active chaplain for the Civil Air Patrol in Atlanta and a volunteer chaplain at Well Star Cobb Hospital. He was currently employed by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department of Homeland Security. He was a 1955 graduate of Duval High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mildred Gillenwater.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl McCutcheon Gillenwater; five children, Anthony of Colleyville, TX, Brian of Cleveland, TN, Monica Frazer of Chandler, Arizona, Victor of Douglasville, GA, and Nicole Gillenwater of Powder Springs, GA; two sisters, Lenora Sutphin of Charles City, VA and Pam Webb of Clarksburg, WV; six grandchildren, Bethany, Kristen, Lauren, Matthew, Evan and Christina and one great granddaughter, Alexis Gillenwater. .

Services will be 2:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, conducted by his two sons, Anthony and Brian. Burial with military graveside rites by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Ralph Landon Clark

Ralph Landon Clark, 70, of Yawkey, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Grace; his parents, Oral and Dona; his brothers, Harold, Tommy and Jackie Gene; and his nephew, Stephen Clark.

He was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Griffithsville. He was a retired truck driver, former owner of S&S Transport, and a former millwright at Carbide. During his retirement years, he enjoyed associating with old friends while working part time at what he considered his all-time favorite job, working at Curry Funeral Home. He was also a Sunday school teacher at Sycamore Grove for many years as well as being the choir leader.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Shirley Hall and Ken of Alum Creek and Suzie Lawrence and Jimmy of Griffithsville; mother-in-law, Jewell Kessinger of Alkol; one brother and his wife, Ronnie Clark and Debbie of Alkol; three sisters and their husbands, Jean Newman and Bill of Alkol, Anna Lee Smith of Morrisvale, and JoAnn Wall and Jimmy of Alkol; three grandchildren, Ashlee Caldwell and husband, Kevin, Ja Lawrence and Jenna Hall; and two great grandchildren, Garrett Michael Caldwell and Abigale Grace Lawrence. A special thank you goes to his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who always treated him as their own brother.

The service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Basil Hudson and Oshel Bell officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the funeral home.

Donald S. McNealy

Donald McNealy was called home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2006, after a long illness, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was born may 16th, 1925 in St. Albans, WV.  He was the only child of the late Ray C. McNealy and Eve Adkins McNealy.

He was a life-long resident of St. Albans, a graduate of St. Albans High School, where he played varsity football.  He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the U.S.S. South Dakota.  He retired from Union Carbide after 42 years of service.

Don was baptized at Judson Baptist Church by his late father-in-law, the Rev. P.A. Mitchell.  He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church of St. Albans, where he was a Deacon and member of the McClung & Mellon Sunday School class.

He was a devout Christian, a loving husband, a devoted and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He always had a positive outlook on life, and his sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nellie Mitchell McNealy of St. Albans, daughter Donna Brown and husband Rod of Hurricane, daughter Carol Mills of Denver, CO, daughter Dee McNealy of St. Albans, his grandchildren Chad Brown and wife Amanda of Lebanon, TN, Ryan Brown and wife Sarah of Hurricane, Courtney Brown of Hurricane, and great-grandson Michael Chad Brown of Lebanon, TN.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CAMC Memorial Division, the Valley Rehab Center, and the Emergency Room staff at Thomas Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 28th, 2006 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, with the Rev. Joe Hyde officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans directly following the service.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions are made to Highlawn Baptist Church, 2806 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans WV 25177.

Rick Franklin Barker, 38 of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Barker, grandfather Cecil Barker, and daughter Lexi Barker.

Rick was a graduate of So. Charleston High School, a soccer coach and an agent with Monumental Life Insurance Co.

Mervin Eugene Cooper

Mervin Eugene Cooper of Sod, passed away December 20, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston after a short illness.

He was born August 1, 1936 and was a life long resident of Sod. West Virginia. He was a member of the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the West Virginia Laborers Union 1353.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mervin Clarence and Eloise Cooper and sister Yvonne Pauley Justice.

Bonnie Irene Pauley

Bonnie Irene Pauley, 57, of Sod died peacefully Saturday, December 16, 2006 at CAMC General Division after a long illness.

She was a 1967 graduate of Duval High School and a former employee at One Valley Bank and FMC/Great Lakes. She is a member of the Church of Christ and while on earth was an active worker for the Church of Christ in Alum Creek, WV. Though her body over the past few years had succumbed to various illnesses, her spirit only grew stronger. Her earthly life was lived for others. Everything she did was for the happiness of someone else, and for the glory of God.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rex R. Hill, and sister, Alta F. Madden.
