Viola Dean Hill

Viola Dean Hill, 102, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Banbridge of Dunbar after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hill, two daughters, Vola Deel and Eris Lawson.

Viola was a member of the Ruth Community Church and was a Kanawha County schoolteacher at Ruth.

She is survived by her, two sons, Lewis “Bus” Hill and Paul Hill both of South Charleston; half-sister, Ann Hess of Spencer; l l grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 1, 2005 at the Ruth Community Church South Charleston with Pastors Robert Harless and Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. Family and friends will gather two hours prior to service at the Ruth Community Church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph W. Kordusky

Joseph W. Kordusky, Jr. 64, of Elkview, W V formerly of Middlesex, NJ went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at CAMC Memorial after a short illness.

He was an employee at Motel Six in Charleston and attended Esta Memorial Baptist Church of Witcher Creek and Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Pat; three sons, Joseph and wife, Cindy; Michael and wife, Eva; Edward and wife, Pam; four grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Benjamin and Patrick; three brothers, Ronald, Thomas and John.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Dans, Dr. Goad, Dr. Grey and the staff on 3 South at CAMC Memorial division.

Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 1, 2005 at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church Sod, with Pastor Randal Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the American Diabetes Association at PO Box 2680 North Canton, OH 44709 or Gideons International at PO Box 731, St. Albans, WV 25177. Bobby N. Duncan

Bobby N. Duncan, 77, of South Charleston died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at home after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark, sister Betty Belcher, brother Darrell Duncan and parents, Lawrence and Tressie Griffith Duncan.

He was retired from FMC Corporation with 40 years service an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served as a Scout Master and started the Mountaineer Little League program at Alum Creek, where he coached. Recently one of the ball fields was named in his honor. He received the Order of the 35″‘ Star Award from the secretary of state for community service. He was a member of the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768, Alum Creek. He was a Christian and member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eulah Fay Duncan; two daughters, Denise Hannan and husband, Bill, Jr., of Alum Creek, Kim Rodeheaver and husband, Scott of Cross Lanes; two grandchildren, Andrew Duncan and Stephanie Rodeheaver; two brothers, Nile Duncan of Charleston, Dexter Duncan of Alum Creek.

Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 31, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Philip Bowles officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth Pauley

Ruth Pauley, 77, of South Charleston, passed away at home after an extended illness on Tuesday, December 28, 2004.

Ruth devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Oley; daughter, Brenda Roberts and husband Ed of Charleston; two sons, Darrell of Charleston, Freddie and wife Louise of South Charleston; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She brought beauty and warmth into an ordinary world and now we will forever feel the absence of her light.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to granddaughter Lisa Olson, Suewanne Pauley, Judy Sarver and all who prepared meals. Also, a special thanks to Hospice nurses Sally and Donna.
Services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, December 3Q 2004, at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Robert S. “Butch” Leadman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park at South Charleston. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Russell Paul Turley

Russell Paul Turley, 84, of So. Charleston, West Virginia died December 26, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Wayne Turley and his parents and several siblings. He was a retired operator from Union Carbide in So. Charleston with 42 years service and also worked in sales for Thermaguard Windows for several years and was a decorated Army veteran of WWII. He also was a former member and deacon at Grace Baptist Church at St. Albans and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his:

Wife: Barbara; 4 Sons: David, Roger, Tony and Marc; 1 Daughter: Sherri Kirk; 3 Sisters: Greta Killpatrick, Dorothy Nice and Joyce Coiner; 1 Brother: Carl Turley;
Many grandchildren whom he adored; Several great grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home Alum, Creek with Pastor Kent Estep officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be in Grandview Memorial Park Dunbar. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to service at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.

Vera Runyan Ours

Vera Runyan Ours, 83, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, John “Effie” Runyan and sister, Madora Runyan.

Vera worked 20 years at Gravely Tractor, Dunbar as a payroll clerk and worked 23 years at Thermoform Plastics, Little Hocking River, Ohio. She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hess of Alum Creek; three grandchildren, Pamela and Joseph Hess, Jennifer Thompson and her husband, Randy; two great grandchildren, Stavan Walker and Emilie Thompson. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life. Also surviving, three sisters, Ida Pauley and husband, Arthur and Judy Runyan all of Sumerco, Lucy Meikle and husband, Robert of Alum Creek.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Committal services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday at Carmel Cemetery, Racine, Ohio with Minister Teddy Tackett officiating.

The family would like to give special thanks to caregiver’s Sue, Melissa and grand-daughter Jennifer and also to Kanawha Hospice Care and Hubbard Hospice House.

David Hamilton

David Hamilton, 61, of Sod, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

He attended Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church and was a school bus driver.

He is survived by his son, Hugh Alan Hamilton; daughter, Suzanne Lovejoy; two sisters, Leona and Annette.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Friday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jennie L. Young

Jennie L. Young, 79, of St. Albans, died Sunday, December 19, 2004 at Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton.

She was a member of the Highlawn Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in various church circles and worked with the youth.

Jennie is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and David Downey of St. Albans, Tracy and Joe McGrath of St. Albans; two sons and daughter-in-law, Link Young of Las Vegas, Nevada, David and Robin Young of St. Albans; sister, Marie Jones of St. Albans; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at the Highlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Rev. Dr. Joe Hyde, Rev. Joel Harpold and Bob Ely officiating.

Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 9 PM Tuesday, December 21, at the Highlawn Baptist Church 2304, Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of the arrangements.

Tiffany Sloan

Tiffany Sloan, born as Bill Rymer, December 12, 1953 died peacefully in her home on December 17, 2004 Immediate family members were present with her when her spirit passed into God’s hands.

She will be deeply missed by her parents, William and Pauline Rymer of Alum Creek, sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Eric Saul of Alum Creek; Cindie and Mark Beach of Clarksburg, Maryland; five nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A 1971 graduate of Duval High School, she completed her Associate Degree in Applied Science at West Virginia State College in 2001. She was employed by Dow Chemical Union Carbide for 20 years and Dupont for six years where she will be missed by friends and co-workers. Tiffany has been a Christian for 39 years and attended Asbury United Methodist Church and Appalachian Metropolitan Community Church in Charleston. She will be remembered by all as a loving friend who always cared for others more than she did herself. Generous, kind and compassionate, she spent her life helping those less fortunate, teaching children about God’s love, and fighting and for the rights of all people to be treated with respect, fairness and dignity.

Visitation with the family will beheld on Monday, December 20, 2004 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with funeral services beginning at 7:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 with the funeral procession leaving Curry Funeral Home at 10:30 AM for anyone wishing to follow to the cemetery. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to McElderry House, 2000 McElderry Street, Baltimore, MD 21205 or Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, W V 25064. The family would like to thank the many friends of Tiffany for their love, kindness, and support of her throughout her life and to her family during the last days we were blessed to spend with her.

Ted Loftis

Ted Loftis, born June 26, 1919, went to be with his heavenly Father December 16, 2004.

He was the son of William Ira and Pearlie Loftis, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; son, Dwight; and daughters Ellen Childers and Carol Maynard.

He was retired from Union Carbide as a construction worker, a member of Labors Union Loca11353 and a Navy Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, who was his loyal and devoted caregiver for the past eight years; daughters, Carol Turley, Pat Turley, Kay Pahl and Janice Goeglein; sons, Teddy Loftis, Roger Loftis and David Lucas; sister, Elsie McCormick; brother, Elwood “Teed” Loftis; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and three three step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him greatly.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, December 18, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Jackie Miller and Rev. Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
