Loretta Fay Whitten

Loretta Fay Whitten, 50 of Alkol, went home to be with the Lord, Friday July 23, 2004 at CAMC Memorial after a long illness.

She was a member of the Sycamore Grove Baptist Church at Alkol.

Loretta Fay is survived by her husband, Roger; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Courtney Whitten of Alkol; two brothers, Timmy Antill of Yawkey and David Antill of Millwood; three grandchildren, Madison Whitten; Weston and Cierra Meadows.

Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Sycamore Grove Baptist Church at Alkol with Pastor Darrell Searls and Pastor Henry Estep officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek and one hour prior to service at the church.

Mary Lee Estep

Mary Lee Estep, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 17, 2004 after a long illness.

She was retired from the VW Department of Finance and Administration and was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah A. and Vallie Mullins; daughter, Teresa Ann Estep and sister, Markel Rhodes.

She is survived by: Husband: Gene; Daughter: Tammy Estep of St. Albans; Sister: Doris Ann Estep of TN; Brother: Frankie Mullins of SC.

Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 19, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call Monday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home before the service.

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend to many. She loved the Lord and it showed in her daily life.

Sallie Chandler Atkins

Sallie Chandler Atkins, 82, of Charleston passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004 after a short illness.

She was a graduate of Duval High School. She retired from the WV Department of Agriculture after 32 years of service with the state. She was a member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Atkins; one daughter, Barbara Ann Valliere; parents, George and Leota Chandler of Lincoln County; two sisters, Ethleen Chandler and Gae Paxton; two brothers, Jess Chandler and Dana Harold Chandler.

She is survived by: 2 Daughters and son-in-law: Patsy Lee Carr of Charleston; Zola and Clay Miller of Spencer; Son and daughter-in-law: Roger and Shirley Atkins of Marietta, Ohio; Sister: Reba Egnor of Mineral Wells; 2 Brothers and sister-in-law: Troy Chandler of Spencer George, Jr.; Olivene Chandler of Ripley; 8 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Jerry Alderson officiating. Burial will be in Orchards Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, W V 25064.

Robert R. “Bobby” Fields, IV, went home to be with the Lord on his 18th birthday, Thursday, July 15, 2004, after fighting a courageous battle with heart disease since birth.

He was a Junior at South Charleston High School and a member of Cross Lanes Baptist Church.
He is survived by: Mother: Paula Turley Fields; Father: Robert R. “Bob” Fields, III; Grandfather: Robert R. Fields; Grandmother: Jean Turley; Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 19, 2004 at Cross Lanes Baptist Church, 102 Knollwood Dr., Cross Lanes with Pastor Seth Polk and Pastor Greg Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Sharon Lynn Pauley

Sharon Lynn Pauley, 64, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 14, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Guy and Lona Keeling and brother, David Keeling.

She is survived by:

3 Daughters: Debra Griffith Sonya Core Leatha Flowers; 2 Sons: Steve Pauley; Eddie Pauley; 1 Brother: Larry Keeling; 3 Sisters: Betty Mays Ruth Clutz Faye Moxley; 22 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Service will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the service.

She was a beloved mother and sister who will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Archie R. Breedlove

Archie R. Breedlove, 92 of Alum Creek, formerly of Alkol, died Sunday July 11, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston.

For the past 20 years he made his home with his sister and brother-in-law Avanell and Gene Canfield of Alum Creek.

Additional survivors are sister Olive Johnson of Sod and brothers Charles Breedlove of Jacksonville, FL and Richard Breedlove of Charleston.

Graveside service will be held 2:30 PM Wednesday July 14, 2004 at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 to 2 PM Wednesday at the Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek.

Bessie V. Hanson Young

Bessie V. Hanson Young, 88, of Alum Creek, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a long illness.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Young.

She is survived by her sons, Bob of Alum Creek, Larry of Sod, and David of Charleston; daughters, Vada Young of Alum Creek, Pansy Holstein of Sumerco; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, three step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Services will beheld at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor Rexal Cooper officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Virginia R. Cooper Griffith, 85, of Yawkey, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Griffith.

Virginia was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Dean Jones of Yawkey, Linda Banks of Martinsburg; sons, Lang Griffith and Gail Griffith both of Yawkey, Dale Griffith of Panther, Butch Griffith of Garretts Bend; brothers, Gene Cooper of Massilon, Ohio, George Cooper of Branchland, Bernard Cooper of Griffithsville, Raymond Cooper of South Carolina; sister, Estel Wade of Griffithsville; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 5, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell and Pastor Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will be held in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call on Sunday, July 4, 2004 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
