Bertha Ann Long Marker, 69, of Sod, passed on Sunday, February 29, 2004 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was a homemaker who had a love for fishing, camping, bingo, sewing and for her children and grandchildren. She also formerly attended the Salvation Army Church in Charleston.

She is survived by her husband of 2lwonderful years of marriage, James Luther “MILKMAN” one son, Ronald C. Long, Jr. of Charleston; five daughters, Pamela Price of Florida, Leigh Rankin of St. Albans, Kathy Campbell of Sissonville, Rhonda Frasher of Florida, and Mary McCluskey of Charleston; one step-son, Jimmy Marker of Sumerco; two step-daughters, Teresa Breedlove of Sod; Melinda Ray of Alum Creek; one sister, Rose Mary Leone of Florida; two brothers, Robert Smith of Florida; Ned Smith of Hewitt; l2 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday March 4, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rev. Tony H. Pauley, 73, of Yawkey, at 9:30 AM Sunday Morning, February 29, 2004, in the CCU of Thomas Memorial Hospital, an angel from the throne of God slipped in the room and took him home as his family and friends wept at his departure, but rejoiced to know that he was finally home after all his labor on earth was done.

He was born March 12,1930, to the late Jack and Irene Pauley. He was raised by two loving parents, the late Arch and Anna Burton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Fanny Smith; two brothers, Earl and Everett Pauley.

He was retired from Brewer Sprinkler Co. with 50 years of service. He was presently Pastor of the Morrisvale Missionary Baptist Church, one of several area churches he has been a pastor at over the last 43 years.

He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 54 years, Mary; one daughter and her husband, Abigail and Charles “Buddy” McClure of Alkol, W V; four sons, Tony Jr. “Butch” and wife, Rhonda of St. Albans; Randy of Yawkey; Rex and wife, Ilean of Hurricane; Scotty and wife, Deanna of Yawkey; six grandchildren, Jamie, Chad, Jared, Marty, Melody, and Melissa; nine great grandchildren, Michele, Lexi, Payton, Lakynn, Brayden Maggie, Drew, Adam and Jill; sister, Alie Salmons of Hamlin; sister and brother-in-law, Jewel and Ralph Dawson of Yawkey; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Chester Bird, Rev. Paul Fulks, Rev. Gary Hall and Rev. Harlan Roberts. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jeremy Douglas Swann

Jeremy Douglas Swann, has been freed from the shackles of his earthly body by the hand of his Savior, Jesus Christ, pulling him home to Heaven, letting him walk the streets of gold, Thursday afternoon after a short stay in the hospital.

Jeremy was born October 14, 1989. He was the oldest son of Mike and Lisa Swann of Sod. His loving family and many dear friends will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his cousin, Rebecca Glicken.

He is also survived by his sister, Emily and two brothers, Morgan and Austin all at home; ma maw Grace and pa paw Roe Smith of Sod; pa paw Jim and nanny Tazuko Swann of Henderson, Nevada; several aunts and uncles, Tom and Tern Duttine of Sod; Sandra McClure of Alkol; Robert and Rita McCallister of Sod; Rick Swann of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Dr. Chet and Amy Wright of Henderson, Nevada; cousins, Josh and Michael Browning, Katie Duttine, Holly, Brandon and Taylor McClure, Megan, Rachel and Gracie McCallister, Nick and Jason Swann, and Jessica Glicken. Also very special and deaz to his heart were Helen Ann Salmons and Skippy.

Our hearts are broken and Jeremy is and will always be missed dearly by many.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Sunday, February 29, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wes Mostellor officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Saturday, February 28, 2004 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Girthel Theda Pauley Fletcher

Girthel Theda Pauley Fletcher, 85, of South Charleston formerly of Alum Creek died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She is survived by: 1 Daughter: Annette Combs of South Charleston; 2 Granddaughters: Shelby E. Combs & Nancy Reese; 2 Grandsons: Chris and Pat Passagulia; 1 Sister: Sudie Williams of Dayton, OH; 2 Brother: Garde Pauley and Russell Pauley both of Dayton, OH; 2 Sisters-in-law: June Thomas and Mary Pauley both of So. Charleston; 1 Brother-in-law: Ray Fletcher of Brounland.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 27, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Joe Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Jessica Meikle Graley, 21, of South Charleston die Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Lewisburg.

She is survived by her mother, Ronda Hudson.

Private service will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 23, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery. Family will visit one hour prior to service.

Floyd “Pookie” E. Walls, Sr., 58, of Olcott, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 16, 2004 at home.

He was a retired auto mechanic from Bert Wolfe Ford with 34 years of service and he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his wife, Sharlene; two sons, Jay and Barry; parents, Orville and Goldie Walls and two brothers, Roy and Teddy; four grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dwight McClure and Rev. Romie Comer officiating. Burial will be held in Holstine Cemetery, Dartmont. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Tom Griffith

Tom Griffith, 53, of Yawkey, passed away quietly at his home on Sunday, February 15, 2004.

Tom was born September 12, 1950 the son of the late Mildred and Guy Griffith. He was a lifelong resident of West Virginia and was employed by the West Virginia Lottery Commission.

He leaves his wife, Patricia; three sisters, Nancy Miller of Newton Falls, Ohio, Lillian Snodgrass of Charleston, and Lois Young of Elkview.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Friday, February 20, 2004 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in the Griffith Family Cemetery, Yawkey. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Patty Griffith Trust Fund in care of Grace Church of the Nazarene, 499 2″d Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25303.

Tom will be sadly missed by his family, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Bessie Cyrus

Bessie Cyrus, 84, of Tango, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a long illness.
She was a member of Merritts Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Daymond Cyrus, along with six brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Sue Cyrus at home; son, Thomas W. Cyrus of Hurricane; brother, William Henry Bird of Yawkey; sisters, Lucy May Roberts of Alkol; Cynthia Virginia Spears of Garden City, Michigan; two special nieces, Dorothy May and Linda Highland; two special nephews, Carl May and Walter Harless. Also several other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell and Rev. Elmer Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Linda Sue Kirk Spencer

Linda Sue Kirk Spencer, 58, of Charleston, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 11, 2004 at home.

She was an employee of CAMC with 32 years as a nursing assistant and a housekeeping tech. Linda also was a long time member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Kanawha City.

She is survived by her: Husband: Mike; Son: David Royse of Charleston; Brothers: Hank Kirk of Taylor, MI; George W. Kirk of Sissonville; Leon Kirk of Cross Lanes; Sisters: Patricia Williams of Brounland; Vaughna Kay Priestley of Lexington, KY; Jeanette Larch of Snellville, GA; Granddaughter: Elizabeth Grace.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Hughey and Pastor Travis Bradley officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Rosie Hamilton

Rosie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Melvin “Bo” Dunlap of McCorkle; David Lee McCallister of McCorkle; Arlon Lewis McCallister of St. Albans; Derrick McCallister stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Army; daughters, Janice “Midge” Settle of Yawkey; Shirley Steele of Casa Grande, AZ; step-daughter, Suzanne Lovejoy of Morrisvale; step-son, Hugh Alan Hamilton of Morrisvale; brother, Azel Pauley of Parkersburg; sister, Lola Armstrong of Sod; 24 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will not be a visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.
