Russell Dean Akers, of St. Albans, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024.
Rusty was a one-of-a-kind guy. He knew everyone, everywhere he went. He never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors, loved going fast, fast, fast in his boats, cars, motorcycles, trucks, and scaring Cyndi every minute and that made him happy. LOL!
From 1999, Rusty towed Chelsea and Cyndi all over the country so they could pursue their passions of horses. Rusty built a barn, indoor riding ring, and an outdoor riding ring. He made sure Chelsea had the best horses. We would say, “Hey Rust, we found another horse” and he’d say, “Well let’s go get ‘em.” He never told us no. What a MAN!!
Rusty was a jack of all trades, and he could do anything. He was the owner of Akers Auto Repair from 1989 to present. He could fix any transmission motor. You name it, he could do it.
Rusty made furniture and refinished furniture on the side. He could build ponds, pools, decks. You told him what you wanted, and he did it. He built our family four houses from the ground up.
There will never be another Rusty Akers. He was so loved and will be missed. We know he is up in Heaven enjoying himself. He deserved the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodson and Audrey Akers; stepmother, Pat Akers.
Rusty is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cyndi Akers; daughter, Chelsea Akers (Nolan Curry) of St. Albans; grandchildren, Arizona Audrey Akers, Amelia Graycee Akers of St. Albans; father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Linda Quigley of Charleston; brothers and sisters, Joanie Akers, Frankie Akers, Timmy and Debbie Akers.
Memorial service will be 6:00pm, Monday, March 4, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
